Comey Declines To Say If Trump Himself Was Under Investigation

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ALLEGRA KIRKLAND Published MARCH 20, 2017, 2:33 PM EDT

FBI Director James Comey on Monday declined to answer questions about whether President Donald Trump either was under investigation during the 2016 election campaign or is currently.

Comey urged observers not to “overinterpet” his non-answers to questions from Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) during the House Intelligence Committee hearing on Russian interference in the election.

“We have briefed them in great detail on the subjects of the investigation and what we're doing but I'm not going to answer about anybody in this forum,” Comey said of committee Chair Devin Nunes (R-CA) and ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).

Comey did confirm during the hearing that the FBI was investigating whether member of Trump’s campaign coordinated with the Russian government during the campaign.

1. Pretty big story

He could have easily said that Trump isn't under investigation if he wasn't, but if Trump is he couldn't say anything. I think it's just assumed that Trump was the head of his own campaign, so if his campaign is under investigation, Trump is too.

4. Decline to answer is the same as "cannot confirm or deny..."

Means there's at least some smoke that's being investigated for signs of a combustible base...

"FBI Director James Comey on Monday declined to answer questions about whether President Donald Trump either was under investigation during the 2016 election campaign or is currently."

He sure as hell had ZERO problem throwing the election for Dump when the bullshit, so called warrant for Weenie's computer. When the FBI released that POS investigation into HRC AGAIN, the warrant hadn't been signed yet. But Comey had NO problems letting this bullshit but everything Cheetolini pulled during his "campaign" did't seem to matter.

Comey has no sense of decency.

The HRC investigation didn't involve national security. Different rules apply to disclosure in the two cases. I fully understand why Comey is adopting a GLOMAR posture the DT investigation.

That said, I have to wonder why Comey went public with the Hillary investigation.

At the hearing yesterday he struck me as an exceptionally intelligent man with a strong sense of "country over party" morality. For me, that lends credence to the idea that he was under some kind of extreme pressure over the emails that we still don't know about. If I had to hazard a guess, he could have thought that the consequences of not cooperating with the Hillary letter would have jeopardized a much larger and significantly more consequential Trump investigation that was still in its infancy.

Given his performance yesterday, he doesn't strike me as the kind of man who plays party politics, or the kind who caves in at the drop of a hat.

I think that something else is going on with Comey that we know absolutely nothing about.

I know that she's a minor celeb and I appreciate that her opinion shouldn't carry any more weight than anyone else's, but I think The View passes on much information to ppl who don't watch congressional hearings or even daily news. It has a left bent for certain but usually stays pretty balanced because of a variety of strong opinionated women.

Anyway... I agree with her and the reasons she pointed out for the distrust. She strongly advocated for an impartial investigation and the audience and panel agreed.

That is the way it worked with Nixon and Watergate. Presidents get impeached, their minions get indicted.

because it'll be easier to go after trump as an elected official and actually take him - and many others - down, than it was while he was a private citizen? I hope, because if the investigation started in June/July and he was allowed to run and be elected, then our I.C. , legal and justice has a lot to answer for. If they delayed for no good reason, they have put our country into extreme jeopardy.
