Hawaii GOP Rep resigns from failing party citing racist and sexist bullying
Source: Raw Story
Hawaii Rep. Beth Fukumoto (R) announced on Wednesday that she would be leaving the Republican Party and is seeking to join the Democratic Party instead. KITV 4 reports Fukumoto cited racism and sexism as the core reasons why shes leaving during a press conference.
Fukumoto was ousted by the Hawaii GOP from her position as House Minority Leader last month after she participated in the Womens March.
She said the party was getting increasingly hostile to different opinions, explaining she had previously been booed for about 10 minutes straight for raising concerns about President Trump, then nominee Trump, and the way he treated women and minorities.
The Hawaii Representative released a statement on Wednesday to announce her resignation from the GOP, writing, When I joined the Republican Party eight years ago, I did so with a group of people my age who were full of hope, ideas and energy. In their view, the Democratic party represented the status quo who were not concerned with the lives of local Hawaiians dealing with income inequality and a housing crisis.

(7,006 posts)Glad to see you learned that the modern day Republican Party does not give a s**t about Women, Hawaiian Issues, Minorities, The Working Poor, The Middle Class, The Upper Middle Class, or Caucasian People (Male or Female) that are not a part of the top 10% of income earned.
Welcome!!!

(90,793 posts)She's right about the housing crisis. A couple of years ago I returned to O'ahu for my 50th high school reunion. While my husband and I had a womderful time, I could see the problems roiling beneath the surface. Housing prices are beyond belief, and an old friend told us an added cost to her city condo was a doorman to keep criminals out. Every night we drove through this one underpass in the city on our way back to the hotel, we could see a tent made out of blue tarp, set up on the sidewalk. It was just so sad.
Every party gets to the point where it needs new blood. It looks like she and her friends will be a breath of fresh air -- for the Dems.

(23,364 posts)... what attracted her to the Republican party?
Is she now a Republican disguised as a Democrat? A sort of blue-ish dog?

(802 posts)How delusional do you have to be to think that the Republicans were the answer to income inequality and a housing crisis? Really?!?!? They have been racist and sexist for a long time.
