S Korean cargo ship Stellar Daisy vanishes in South Atlantic
3 hours ago

A huge South Korean cargo ship which had 24 people on board has gone missing in the South Atlantic.

Officials in Seoul said efforts were under way to rescue two sailors found on a life raft, Yonhap news agency reports.

On Friday, a crew member sent a text saying the Stellar Daisy freighter was taking on water.

The Uruguayan navy alerted merchant ships in the area, which began a search.

since the Greek and Phoenician traders started plying the eastern Med. And probably long, long before that and continues to this day. Modern container and bulk carriers look huge to us, but are just tiny specs in a vast ocean. Even with today's engineering and technology, there's still numerous combinations of conditions that will sink any ship.

Only seven missing without a trace in eleven years (unless you're referring simply to ships sinking at sea due to one means or another)

Barges are especially vulnerable. It's horrible AND common.

I forget the exact number, but apparently ships vanish without a trace fairly often, mostly in regions subject to those rogue waves.
