White House decries media lack of interest in reports of Obama officials spying

The White House called on the media Monday to show more zeal in investigating allegations that Obama administration officials abused their access to intelligence to seek out and disclose potentially damaging information about Donald Trump’s campaign and transition.

Struggling to defuse ongoing investigations of alleged Russian interference in the election on behalf of now-President Trump, and to deflect reports of possible ties between Trump associates and Moscow, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said he was “somewhat intrigued” at the media’s “lack of interest .?.?. in one set of developments versus another set of developments.”

...........................

Conservative social-media agitator Mike Cernovich reported Sunday that the White House counsel’s office had “identified” Rice as asking for the names of “incoming Trump officials,” during an internal review of document logs. The report did not indicate whether conversations with Russians were involved.
.............................

Information from the review, according to White House officials, was turned over to Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. Nunes subsequently announced that he had briefed Trump on the information......................

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said he would not comment on a new report that Susan Rice, President Barack Obama’s national security adviser, had requested that the intelligence community provide her with names of Trump associates whose conversations with foreigners were incidentally intercepted

The phony Susan Rice story, explained

The former national security advisor’s surveillance activity is neither illegal or unethical.

Conservatives are seizing on a report that former national security advisor Susan Rice requested the identity of anonymous people named in intelligence reports, claiming that it provides evidence for President Trump’s false claim that Trump Tower was wiretapped.

Bloomberg’s Eli Lake reported Monday that Rice requested the “unmasking” of third parties whose information is collected during targeted surveillance of other individuals. Conservative media jumped on the claim and reported that it corroborates Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee’s allegation that information about Trump’s transition team had been “incidentally collected” during U.S. government surveillance of foreign officials.

But the reports, which originated from the far-right, fringe corners of the internet, do not reveal any illegal activity or violation of privacy laws. They also provide no support for President Trump’s still entirely-unsubstantiated claim that the Obama administration’s surveillance targeted Trump officials.
Funneled from the far right

Susan Rice’s involvement in the unmasking was first reported by far-right extremist Mike Cernovich, who published a story on Medium Sunday alleging that the mainstream media has been attempting to cover up the revelation.

Associate it with Obama

Funnel it into RW propaganda sites

Also, if the Obama administration was targeting specific Trump associates, why the fuck would they unmask them? They would already know who they fucking are!!!!! I swear rightwingers don't understand basic logic. For starters: Trump wouldn't be allowed within a mile of the Whitehouse by president Hillary if Obama had any intention to do anything close to subterfuge.

It's a shame they couldn't get a few more hits. Even though it was probably a typical sound for the time, they seemed to have something a little different in the works.

Whole of cnn's coverage as I only watch from 4-6am but they have always called donnies charge of wiretapping UNSUBSTANTIATED. They seem particularly careful about that. They have also called this Susan Rice thing a distraction and that unmasking is neither illegal nor unusual.
