CHAOS ERUPTS IN PENN STATION AFTER AMTRAK POLICE TASER MAN

Source: WNBC

Amtrak police used a Taser on man inside Penn Station on Friday evening, causing a mass panic.

It was mass hysteria Friday evening at Penn Station with thousands of people running in every direction, leaving behind their shoes, luggage, and other valuables fearing the absolute worst.

Panicked screams were followed by a stampede of travelers at Penn Station Friday during the peak of the rush hour commute, when Amtrak police attempted to detain two men for disobeying orders.

"They were trying to calm down that man," an eyewitness said.

Eyewitness News' cameras were there as transit police used a Taser on one of the men. He managed to get away from officers, but was tackled moments later.

1. Train Stuck in Tunnel 3 Hours, Then Stun Gun Sparks Stampede.

Apr 2017

'A train with about 1,200 passengers became stuck in a tunnel between New York and New Jersey for nearly three hours on Friday, and the chaotic scene escalated to pandemonium when Amtrak police used a stun gun to subdue a disruptive man in a station, sparking a stampede.

It was the latest in a series of recent rail problems plaguing the metropolitan area.

The New Jersey Transit train became disabled in the Hudson River tunnel late Friday afternoon, when Amtrak was experiencing overhead power problems. A New Jersey Transit spokeswoman said the train finally reached New York's Penn Station in the early evening.

The overcrowded train station erupted in panic when Amtrak police used a Taser to subdue a man who was causing a disturbance. New York police said the use of the Taser led to false rumors of gunshots at the station. People screamed and ran, leaving the station strewn with abandoned bags. The nearby Macy's department store was briefly locked down.

Amtrak said Friday night the subdued man, who wasn't a passenger from the disabled train, was in police custody.'>>>

Cement headed morons need to know that it's potentially lethal force and if one jolt doesn't do it, additional ones won't and can kill the suspect. And it never calmed a single person down, it just induced massive uncoordination.

My son in law's a deputy sheriff, suburban DC, and is regularly trained/retrained. Will ask him abt this.

7. On the other hand sometimes the reason the taser fails to drop the suspect is the darts fail to make

contact either because the officer missed or something blocked it from completing the circuit so in those cases a 2nd attempt might be warranted but after that you are right its just stupid to use the taser anymore on someone and then they need to try something else but overall a taser is still a far better option than a bullet from a 9 millimeter or atleast it is in my opinion.

but the situations I've seen it used multiple times are when the person is already subdued, just mouthing off.

Cops need to know that a taser is not going to fix that unless they kill the poor bugger with it, and a bullet might be more humane.

I'll repeat, just in case Our Finest are reading this: A TASER IS NOT A TRANQUILIZER.

6. Over 300 people have already been killed by Tasers in the U.S. alone in the past 15 years.

Not coincidentally, since Bush and his favorite Armageddon freak Ashcroft encouraged their use among police forces.

9. I suspect the problem isnt the taser (overall its safer than a bullet) but rather the problem

I am willing to wager it is being caused because to many police departments hiring people who should have never been hired as a dog walker let alone a police officer, that and extremely lax training all play a part in it and they are not being taught well enough that using any weapon be it a baton, a taser or a gun is a last resort and only a last resort.

10. Definitely.

It's not so much their use, but the way they're used, that makes them lethal.

Many of the officers caught on film using them in what turned out to be deadly incidents, kept the trigger pressed for far too long. Some of them literally seemed to be enjoying doing so as well.

It really is imperative that police forces try harder to screen their applicants for psychotic traits. Any job with that much power inevitably attracts them.
