3 Million Fewer May Be Insured Due to Ruling, Study Predicts
Source: NY Times
The Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday that the Supreme Court decision on President Obamas health care overhaul would probably lead to an increase in the number of uninsured and a modest reduction in the cost to the federal government, compared with estimates before the court ruling.
The court said, in effect, that a large expansion of Medicaid envisioned under the 2010 law was a state option, not a requirement.
As a result, the budget office said, it now predicts that six million fewer people will be insured by Medicaid, the federal-state program for low-income people. But half of them, it said, will probably gain private insurance coverage through health insurance exchanges to be established in all states.
On balance, the budget office said in a new report, about 3 million more people will be uninsured' in 2022.

(13,452 posts)3 million off mediCAID - when you've run yourself out of money. Still eligible for conventional insurance help.
Stuck with Repug governors who refuse to implement help.

(13,452 posts)Being off Medicaid means these people will be working, earning money and paying for their health care either by their work or from their pockets - either way, being a productive worker instead of a disabled worker.
Look at that article closely. 3-million no longer covered .... by Medicare. That's because they will be covered by regular insurance.

(6,335 posts)If you are anywhere near the Medicaid eligibility income I assure you, you cannot afford to pay ANYTHING for insurance. Roberts knew full well what he was doing. And that decision was not a victory.

(13,452 posts)Now, if you are trying to say that those close to the earnings line cannot afford to pay anything, can they afford to pay the 7.65% taken out of their checks now?
If that went up to 10%, are you saying they will die of hunger? Or, why is it that they "cannot?"

(8,124 posts)Why would you let Max Baucus and the Big Insurance Companies write a bill.. that was supposed to benefit the people? Knowing.. htat it was more of the same?
And why would you rubber-stamp a bill like this? Or why would you rubber stamp NDAA at 11 P.M. on New Years Eve? When you promised "transparency"?
