Chaffetz, Cummings Ask Trump Org. For More Details On Plan To Donate Profits

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ESME CRIBB Published APRIL 22, 2017, 3:21 PM EDT

The chair and ranking member of the House Oversight Committee on Friday asked the Trump Organization to explain its plans to donate profits from payments made by officials of foreign governments.

In a joint letter to Trump’s attorneys, Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and Elijah Cummings (D-MD) asked for “additional details of the plan to donate profits derived from foreign government payments.”

Chaffetz in January seemed unconcerned with the possibility that Trump might run afoul of the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution, under which “no person holding any office of profit or trust” may “accept of any present, emolument, office, or title” from a foreign leader or government without the consent of Congress. “I’m not going to go on this fishing expedition that they want me to, that the Democrats want me to,” he said.

In their letter Friday, Chaffetz and Cummings asked the Trump Organization to provide further documents by May 12 and schedule a briefing with the committee a week later.

They'll be looking at him and Ivanka next.

I wonder if her competitors for the Chinese retail market have standing in the US to bring a suit against her company...

Not going on a "fishing expedition" unless its a democrat. Spent how much time deep sea fishing with Hillary? But a Repub can't do wrong.

January and April 22 that convinced him to get out his pole and tackle box and "go on this fishing expedition that they want me to, that the Democrats want me to,”? - very interesting, the timing of this expedition, sez I -

...he's leaving soon ... he wants to go out in a blaze of glory by holding the Trump team accountable just before they get indicted... wishful thinking.

...but as usual, I know nothing, really, and will stay tuned, along with the rest of us!

But hey, you know, if he wants to give team trump traitors a hard time before the indictments start flowing, well then, blaze on, bro Jason!

That tally more than doubled the prior 2009 record of $53.2 million for President Barack Obama's first inauguration, which had topped the previous 2005 record of $42.3 million for President George W. Bush, government records showed.

The biggest donor by far to Trump's inauguration was Sheldon Adelson, casino magnate and founder of Las Vegas Sands (lvs, -0.68%). He gave $5 million, according to the 58th Presidential Inaugural Committee's filing with the Federal Election Commission. Adelson declined comment.

Many of the companies that donated to Trump, a Republican, have significant matters pending before the U.S. government or have been invited to White House events.

I'd like to see Chaffetz go on a real "fishing expedition" and fall overboard.
(and then be rescued by a passing boat full of Democrats)

If we paid Congressmen on a piecework basis, we'd get a hell of a lot more out of them. There'd have to be a scale - post office naming bills pay $25, tax-cut and anti-abortion bills are classified as hobby work and don't pay anything, sponsorship of bills pays more than cosponsorship, presiding over judge appointment hearings pays the same as sponsorship, and the member has to turn the money back in if one of his bills was overturned by the Supreme Court within five years of its passage.
