Former U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday makes his first major appearance since leaving office, having chosen Chicago, the city where his political career started, to emerge from a three-month hiatus from the public eye.
Obama will meet youth leaders and promote community organizing near the same South Side neighborhoods where his own activism blossomed and propelled him to two terms in the White House that ended with Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20.

(30,745 posts)Her girlfriend had won two tickets to the lottery that admitted them to Grant Park. The girlfriend's husband does not do crowds well, so my daughter went with her instead. I was home, keeping the county headquarters open in case anyone wanted to come in to celebrate or watch TV with like-mined people. She kept texting me from Grant Park. I was not that familiar with texting at the time, and it took me awhile to answer her questions. It was fun, though.
For Obama's second victory, my husband and I were able to get passes to McCormick Place. We were in the auditorium when he came to Chicago after clinching his victory. The place was jammed. We still have the lanyards that allowed us admission. It was fun, and we did not get home until 5:00 a.m.
We will have those times again.
