DHS secretary on homegrown terror: "I don't know how to stop that"

Source: CBS News

WASHINGTON -- Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said he doesn’t know how to stop “homegrown terrorists,” despite saying that the homegrown threat is the “most common” threat facing the U.S.

“There are so many aspects to this terrorist thing,” Kelly said on CBS News’ “Face the Nation.” “Obviously you got the homegrown terrorists. I don’t know how to stop that. I don’t know how to detect that. You got other terrorist threats that come across the border.”

“I believe in the case of the murder -- in the Paris shooting I believe he was homegrown,” Kelly continued. “But, again, there are so many threats that come in from across border. And it’s essential absolutely to control one’s border.”

<snip>

When pressed on the administration’s ability to handle homegrown terrorism, Kelly reiterated that it is a “big threat.” He also again circled back to threats related to border security, a central tenet of President Donald Trump’s agenda.

Use "the google" and then resign the office if you can't figure out how to protect Americans from Americans

You cannot enforce a failed ideology with guns and the military. That just creates more violent terrorists. It starts with building bridges.

If everyone had a good paying income, reliable healthcare, and the means with which, at minimum, to maintain their standard of living, I don't believe they'd have anything to want to commit acts of terror for.

The constant effect of the fear that one might not be able to provide for oneself, far less one's family, is mentally debilitating. It's no wonder some people go off the rails. It would be infinitely less expensive to provide shelter, food and healthcare for everyone than to build any more weapons.

I'll grant a few advances have been made during times of great "need" (war), but many more advances have been euthanized, along with the lives that were going to create them. I firmly believe the human race will not advance any further until we ALL learn to work/live together.

John Lennon's "Imagine" was the best song ever. That it's taken another 50 years to fail to implement is an indictment on all of us.

“Obviously you got the homegrown terrorists. I don’t know how to stop that."

In other words, violent right wingers now have the US government's tacit permission to commit violent acts.

He doesn't? Profiling! If it is good for some, it is good for all. I am sure the RWers will agree, profile people, oh and a wall and travel bans, even if they are US citizens.

you could stop the sedition flowing from Breitbart and Fox and etc. ........ . You could clamp down on the "militia's". You could start arresting the Klan's and Nazi's for their hate speech (which ISN'T protected btw) or would those things piss off your and our liar in chief's base too much?

Actually trying to help with out reach program instead of demonizing? Both in the U.S. and abroad. I bet you might be able to at least get some idea if you actually talked to people in the know. Not just your little twitter group.

Since by far most terrorist incidents are 'homegrown' it's nice to know Homeland security is giving up on them and concentrating on outsiders who are rarely a threat.
