Mexico Floats Retaliatory Strike Against Border Wall: An Entry Fee for Vacationing Americans

BY VIRGINIA KRUTA

Ever since President Trump first floated the idea — early on in his campaign — of building a wall along the southern U.S. border, he has been insisting that Mexico would pay for it.

Despite numerous claims from Mexican officials to the contrary, the president has said just as many times that even if Congress had to put up the initial cost of the wall, Mexico would be made to pay for it eventually.

But on Tuesday, Luis Videgaray, Mexico's foreign relations secretary, threw gasoline on the fire when he called the border wall an “unfriendly, hostile act.” And then he proposed retaliatory strikes that certainly seemed hostile, as well.

The Associated Press reported:

“If the negotiation on other themes — immigration, the border, trade — isn't satisfactory to Mexico's interests, we will have to review our existing cooperation,” Videgaray said. “This would be especially in the security areas ... and that involves the national immigration agency, the federal police and of course, the armed forces.”

Mind you I said almost because the wall is still stupider as they are talking about thousands of miles of border much of which is sparsely populated not to mention the sheer cost to maintain it let alone build it so this is a freaking huge wasteful boondoggle by Trump and the Repugnants.

it was an EXIT fee, and it was $28/head. https://www.costarica.com/travel/exiting-costa-rica

I think they use it to pay for the airport operations, or customs, or IDK.

I knew a group of retired RVers. One of them died while in Mexico. They kept the body hidden til they got back in the US.

I've seen better ideas: boycott corn from American farmers, impose export fees on automobile parts manufactured in Mexico, etc.

Both Mexico and the US really need to work together to resolve the problem and a wall isnt the answer nor is taxing tourists to counter the stupid wall idea of Trumps rather they need to tackle the real problem which is the people and companies that were hiring and exploiting them with low wages.
Go after the farmers and construction companies instead and make it unprofitable and extremely economically painful for them to knowingly hire anyone here illegally but also make it far easier for people from Mexico and other countries to come here and work legally and let them stay for years if they want providing they want to work and are not involved in committing any major violent felonies.
Its a win for almost everyone then really since farmers and construction companies will still have the workers they need and the workers since they are here legally they wont be as vulnerable to being exploited or atleast it wont be as easy anymore as they would have legal protection like every other worker does.
The only real downside will be for those who loved to exploit the illegal workers so that they could pocket even more money for themselves.

show the prick how this game can and will be played. Once people start paying about twice to three times what they're paying for vegetables as we're paying now will also get some of the idiots who is his 'base' attention. Not betting on that last one being the case though

Back when I was a kid we were the fire department. When a forest fire was coming your way you got your ass up, armed yourself with buckets of water, toad sacks, rakes, whatever and went to fight that threat. One of the most effective ways was to set a back fire. In other words fight fire with fire. Thats what Mexico is proposing essentially.

Couldn't agree more. #45 is such a low-grade moron.
Still, I've visited steadily over decades- love the people, the culture and the climate.
And it's sad to swat these prohibitions back and forth like a tennis match.

Went to Tanzania last year. Visa fee if you are coming from many countries? Zero. From EU? $50. From the US? $100, and a rush fee if you want it in less than a month. Other countries already milk US citizens.
