A lot of racists can't handle the subtle nuances of olive complexions and blue or hazel eyes or sandy hair. So they just discriminate against brown people to keep things simple.

A lot of the immigrants who came to America long ago were Jewish and Christian due to favorable conditions for those groups back in the day. Bigots in other countries have been telling Christians to go to America and Jews to go to Israel/America for a very long time. It has stepped up in recent times as radical right wing politicians have gained power. This is among the reasons why some racist Republicans are willing to allow Christian refugees to come over but not Muslims or other religions.
