Trump, Argentine President Macri hold White House talks
Source: WOKV
President Donald Trump welcomed Argentine President Mauricio Macri to the White House for talks on Thursday and said they'll end up being "great friends, better than ever before."
Trump described Macri as "my good friend for many, many years." Asked how long that was, Trump replied: "Long time."
Macri spoke briefly about his desire for strong relations with the U.S.
Argentine journalists in the room asked about lemons. The Trump administration recently postponed a decision by former President Barack Obama to lift a 16-year ban on imports of Argentine lemons, stalling the return of imports from one of the world's top producers of the citrus fruit.
Trump and Macri met first in the Oval Office and then sat down with their delegations for a working lunch. The two already enjoy a personal relationship dating from a 1984 Manhattan real estate deal - ties both hope to leverage to boost U.S.-Argentina relations.

On the agenda: lemons, biodiesel, a certain Buenos Aires building permit...

(160,546 posts)They knew they had Kissinger's total approval as they tortured and murdered their way through 30,000 people who disappeared, with their blessings, as they chained them together and threw them out of airplanes over the Atlantic, and the River Plata, etc.
Looks as if the US has acquired someone in the White House who would have absolutely condoned and admired the Dirty Warriors, too, just like the other US Republicans did. They are all too important to worry about laws and morality.

(2,037 posts)It's said that Narco Rubio in particular has been encouraging Trump to be more attentive with Macri. But outside the right-wing exile crowd, business lobbies are fuming because ever since Macri and his "best team in 50 years" took office, their profits, in dollar terms, are down by half.
With Cristina Kirchner, they had more regulations to deal with; but business was, all in all, very good. Why? Because consumers had money left over at the end of the month. What a radical idea!
U.S. business interests in Argentina have also been hard hit by the 10-fold hikes in utility rates, which as you know often impacts factories and offices even more than residences. Small wonder that foreign investment has fallen by half.
Macri's answer: decrees, electronic voting (i.e. fraud), extortion, militarized riot squads, and now: shutting down radio stations critical of the administration (https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=es&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.eldestapeweb.com%2Fel-gobierno-macri-cerro-y-decomiso-la-fuerza-dos-radios-comunitarias-n28267&edit-text=).
My guess is that when Trump shared all the problems he's been having enacting his own agenda, that's the advice Macri gave him.

(160,546 posts)It boggles the mind how much important information US citizens have to find out from sources in other countries! Clearly, right-wing media owners appear to dominate the airwaves, internet, print journalism all over the world. What a damned pity.
Trump's obsession with controlling everything around him always makes him look like such an ass. He looks like the very last person you'd want to meet.
