Egyptian state TV says 23 people were killed and 25 wounded in an attack by gunmen on a bus carrying Coptic Christians south of Cairo.
The report quotes local health officials as saying that the attack happened on Friday while the bus was traveling on the road to the St. Samuel Monastery in the Minya governorate, about 220 kilometers, or about 140 miles, south of the Egyptian capital.

(14,174 posts)Only today they have global communications and social media, and far superior weapons.
I don't think enough is being done to pressure influential world Islamic leaders to publicly denounce ISIS. To the point of calling a fatwa on them. To declare they are the apostates, they are the blasphemers of Islam. I don't mean mild statement after the fact. I mean a world conference for these leaders, a loud cohesive, united declaration that anyone that joins ISIS and kills innocents will go to hell (or whatever their equivalent is).
I think many 'moderate' world Muslim leaders are riding the coat tails of ISIS, and other radical groups quietly, 20 paces behind. Mumbling their objections. They see ISIS etc.. as clear cutting the land for them, so they can then go in and plant new trees.

(101,321 posts)Egyptian forces have struck "terrorist training camps" in retaliation for an attack on Coptic Christians, President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has said.
State media say six strikes hit the town of Derna in neighbouring Libya.
Gunmen earlier attacked a bus carrying worshippers in central Egypt, killing at least 28 people and wounding 25 others.
President Sisi said he would "not hesitate to strike terrorist camps anywhere".

(4,490 posts)They've been persecuted for so many years. This is the type of REAL persecution I think of when certain American groups complain about baking cakes or issuing a marriage liscense. It's heartbreaking.
