Trump Grows Discontented With Attorney General Jeff Sessions

Source: NY Times

WASHINGTON — Few Republicans were quicker to embrace President Trump’s campaign last year than Jeff Sessions, and his reward was one of the most prestigious jobs in America. But more than four months into his presidency, Mr. Trump has grown sour on Mr. Sessions, now his attorney general, blaming him for various troubles that have plagued the White House.

The discontent was on display on Monday in a series of stark early-morning postings on Twitter in which the president faulted his own Justice Department for its defense of his travel ban on visitors from certain predominantly Muslim countries. Mr. Trump accused Mr. Sessions’ department of devising a “politically correct” version of the ban — as if the president had nothing to do with it.

In private, the president’s exasperation has been even sharper. He has intermittently fumed for months over Mr. Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in last year’s election, according to people close to Mr. Trump who insisted on anonymity to describe internal conversations. In Mr. Trump’s view, they said, it was that recusal that led eventually to the appointment of a special counsel who took over the investigation.

Behind-the-scenes frustration would not be unprecedented in the Oval Office. Other presidents have become estranged from the Justice Department over time, notably President Bill Clinton, who bristled at Attorney General Janet Reno’s decisions to authorize investigations into him. But Mr. Trump’s tweets on Monday made his feelings evident for all to see and raised questions about how he is managing his own administration.

This guy scares the heck out of me. The entire admin is so upsetting it's almost hard to read about let alone comment. We are hitting the apex of living in a time of universal deceit. It's seems obvious to me they have colluded with the Russians and we could end up with a civil war because republicans can't be civil and they expect us to accept their extremism while they can't handle the slightest disagreement from the moderate Left. There is no far left in politics or on the television...it disappeared in the 60s and 70s. Our party has moved to the center thinking it would bread cooperation but it became obvious that the Conservatives have n intrinsic need to differentiate themselves from us on the left and they do it for cultural and ultimately religious reasons. They don't wan't to be associated with hippies, liberals or minorities so when we move to the center they feel obligated to move further right and maintain that displacement. When our party succumbed to corporate money and went to the center the far right went off the hinges of their precious flat earth. And here we are with a full on corrupt, traitorous racist in charge of our laws. smh

Mon Jun 5, 2017, 10:18 PM

He and Sessions were blindsided by Rosenstein who was considering appointing Mueller all along to ensure integrity of investigation. but kept mum. Trump (advised by Kushner) naively thought he and Sessions could manipulate Rosenstein to recommend firing Comey, then just substitute a flunky for FBI director to quash the investigation. Even though Trump miscalculated the blowback and stupidly botched Comey's firing, he must be blaming Sessions for that.

and drag DT and everyone else down with him. Sessions may even flip on DT, for a reduced sentence.

That should be a significant worry.

Remember, Mueller is going to follow every trail and Sessions is one of those, besides Kushner, who had meetings with the Russians that he didn't acknowledge.

One of them was the meeting at the Mayflower.

No sign of that stellar presidential temperament he boasted outrageously about mere months ago either. Sad.

Frankly, Sessions is someone who deserves to be dumped on. Interesting, too, that Sessions was one of the first to jump on the Trump train and was an ardent supporter through the ups and downs of the campaign. But now, because the man hasn't pulled a magic bunny out of his hat (or elsewhere), DT has soured on his Number 1 elf.

This is called eating your own although the article does say that Trump won't fire Sessions. We're suppose to believe he's learned his lesson after the Comey debacle? Hah! And how he's taking special care in the selection a new FBI director.

Wouldn't bet my next breath on it.

Because one thing is clear: Trump doesn't learn anything. He's not interested in learning or listening or considering varying points of view. He wants it his way or Nada.

I'm all for giving him Nada as long there are shackles included in the deal.

This does underscore a repeating pattern: always blame others for your own mistakes. If only Sessions hadn't recused himself, DT's presidency would be sailing through smooth waters. Because that was the plan, methinks. Surround yourself with corrupt 'yes' men and women and no one could touch you regardless of what you'd done or were planning to do.

That House of Cards is beginning to wobble.

He's cowardly and disloyal. I hate his big ears too. Can't trust him after recusal and why say you never met Russian when Franken didn't ask!!?

Plus any lawyer like Roy Kohn -oh Roy if only we could get you back - should have easily won at court. These judges need to be fired and replaced too. Sad but they don't care about America.

That pathetic loser also recused himself - we can't have lawyers like that - embarrassing and sad, and now we have to fire Mueller which is not what we want to do but he's wasting time on the Russian thing.

The problem is the the deputy AG Stein takes over and we have to fire him and get another guy. Nunes would be perfect but he's not a lawyer. That's a stupid requirement for attorney general we'll get a waiver, then he can fire Stein lawyer and Mueller at the same time and that's that.

He hires someone, lavishing them with praise. And himself of course for having the smarts to employ such a gem. Telling him he is terrific and that they are going to make a lot of money together.

Then he will turn on a dime, just to keep everyone on their toes, and threaten to fire the same gem if he even suspects he's not 100% loyal. Make him straighten up and fly right. Bring him back into the office for another blood oath. And if he doesn't think he is still acting or looking subservient enough for his liking, he's gone, without blinking an eye. And its a new terrific hire that is stoked to get the chance to work with Donald J Trump, successful billionaire and TV star!

Spicer says he hasn't spoken with Trump about confidence in Sessions

Kentucky's Malik Monk discusses his fit with the Suns after his workout on June 6, 2017.

Things appear to be tense between President Trump and one of his longtime supporters, Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Asked Tuesday to comment on a New York Times story that Trump "has grown sour on Mr. Sessions ... blaming him for various troubles that have plagued the White House," presidential spokesman Sean Spicer basically offered no comment.

"I have not had a discussion with him (Trump) about that," Spicer said.
