Top Dem says NSA leak offers 'verified info' linking Russia to election hacking

Source: ABC News

While condemning the leak of classified information, the top Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security Committee today said that because a secret NSA document was posted online yesterday "we now have verified information" showing that Russian intelligence services were in fact behind last year's cyber-assault on the U.S. election.

"In any other circumstances this would be an earthquake," but because of "everything" going on in Washington it is a matter that has not received the attention it deserves, Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, said at the start of a committee hearing. "This was Russia ... this was an international attempt to impact the elections of the United States of America."

Her comments come one day after the FBI arrested a 25-year-old government contractor, Reality Winner of Augusta, Georgia, for allegedly leaking the document to reporters at the online publication The Intercept.

The document, posted online just hours before the announcement of Winner's arrest, laid out in stark detail how Russian hackers allegedly "executed cyber espionage operations" against outside vendors dealing with voter-related information.

Is this a totally rogue leak?

If you wrote this as fiction, no one would believe that name.

One of best great ironies ever about our failed reality T-V president's lies, having them revealed by a young woman named Reality. You just can't make this shit up, no one would buy the novel with seemingly obvious, even farcical twists.

To what extent did Trump cause the leak by lying?

Reality Leigh Winner, 25, has been a federal contractor with top-secret security clearance.
-- Winner was a linguist in the US Air Force and speaks Pashto, Farsi and Dari, her mother, Billie Winner said.
-- She was raised in Kingsville, Texas, and served in the Air Force in Columbia, Maryland. Her mother confirmed she was a federal contractor in Augusta but did not know the nature of her work, or if she had contracted for the NSA.

My bad Senator Roy, has been virtually silent since November.

He surely must have some whiff of Russia about him. Way too quiet...

that Blunt is the other Senator from MO because I rarely if ever see his name and hers in the same sentence or story.

and in the recent presidential election by no less than the Obama Administration, when clearly this is not the case. While those of us who have been questioning Republican-controlled voting machine vendors since the early 2000s have been relegated to the status of "conspiracy theorist," one would hope that this latest information will open some eyes and that more details about the Russian hacking come to light for the public.

These counter-intelligence operations always happen in the dark with the excuse that 'we don't want our enemies to learn how we gather information and what we know about them', but it is always a privileged few who sit on this information and are able to continue to use it for political leverage. Look up CIA "Family Jewels". How many Republicans in government actually collaborate with Russians when it comes to hacking?
