Trump's lawyer attacks Comey for disclosing content of memos

Source: Politico

By NOLAN D. MCCASKILL 06/08/2017 02:15 PM EDT Updated 06/08/2017 02:34 PM EDT

President Donald Trump’s outside counsel on Thursday attacked former FBI Director James Comey for disclosing the content of memos he kept of his conversations with Trump, and said the White House will let the authorities determine whether to investigate the ousted FBI chief.

Marc Kasowitz said in a statement following Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier Thursday that he “admitted” to sharing the contents of the memos to a personal friend, who then leaked it to the press. It is not clear if such a disclosure would be a violation.

“Today, Mr. Comey admitted that he unilaterally and surreptitiously made unauthorized disclosures to the press of privileged communications with the President,” Kasowitz said. “We will leave it (to) the appropriate authorities to determine whether this (sic) leaks should be investigated along with all those others being investigated.”

Comey, who kept notes after his interactions with the president, told lawmakers that he shared memos with a friend, with the idea that such a disclosure could lead to a special prosecutor.

No questions. Just get out there and blather in an authoritarian tone. Right....
At least Comey had the guts to face questions.

why do Republicans and leaders such as the DNI and head of the NSA pretend that anything discussed with the president is automatically classified and can't be made public?

Comey's notes emerged 4 days AFTER Trump brought up the "tapes."

No one said before the encounters "this is classified" or "this is off the record". And he didn't surreptitiously make the disclosures, he did it outright. They weren't leaks.

trump got caught with his pants down (figuratively) and now he wants to destroy Comey's veracity.

Screw him.

Of course he'd lie about this. Unfortunately for his side, Drumpf himself went on tv with 2 contradictory versions of the firing, provably lying and everyone in the world who's got ears or eyes knows this. There will be no real Comey investigation, or if Sessions is vile enough to request one, it will go nowhere. This is just another distraction.
