Kansas governor signs new abortion law with font requirement

Source: KSHB

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Kansas will require abortion providers to give women more information about their doctors' histories and provide it on white paper in 12-point Times New Roman type.

Republican Gov. Sam Brownback signed a bill into law Wednesday flanked by fellow abortion opponents. The new law takes effect July 1.

Brownback said the law will protect women by giving them information they need to make informed decisions.

But critics say the law is meant to discourage women from having abortions.

1. I'm OK with the font requirement if there is a true consumer protection need

But seriously? The state has an interest in protecting patients from doctors performing minor outpatient surgery on women by requiring doctors provide them with:

"the doctor's credentials, malpractice insurance, hospital privileges and disciplinary record. The abortion clinic also must disclose the year the doctor received his or her medical degree."

But doesn't have the same interest in protecting the patients from doctors performing heart or brain surgery???

Doesn't even come close to passing the laugh test.

1) does kansas require this of every doctor performing outpatient procedures. if not the its illegal.

2) any time an anti abortion law is shot down by the courts the governor and the attorney general should be required to pay the costs of the case. personally. out of their own pocket

4. I disagree with the state attorney having to pay as they are simply doing their jobs but

the governor that signed it and all elected officials that voted "aye" to passing the law I would agree with having to pay it out of pocket.

5. They should also include the 'histories' of the politicians who dreamed up this

Neanderthal idea. Beyond the info that the doctor is licensed, experienced and competently serves his profession in good standing, what do they mean by 'histories' ?
