Claire McCaskill trails GOP candidates in Senate race, poll shows
Source: STL Post-dispatch
McCaskill, the first-term incumbent Democratic senator, trails all three of her likely Republican challengers, according to a new Post-Dispatch/News 4 poll. She would lose to GOP frontrunner John Brunner by 11 percentage points if they were matched up today, the poll found. She would fall to Sarah Steelman or Todd Akin as well, though by smaller margins.
Further, her "unfavorable" rating is higher than her "favorable," and some of her worst numbers are among all-important independent voters.
The poll of 625 registered Missouri voters suggests a key source of McCaskill's problems is her support of President Barack Obama. The Democratic president who almost won Missouri in 2008, and once considered the state a 2012 tossup now has a 51 percent negative rating here and a 9-point deficit against Republican challenger Mitt Romney, according to the poll.
"A lot of people are going to hold her accountable for her close ties to the president," said pollster J. Brad Coker of Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. of Washington, which conducted the poll.

Doesn't Mason-Dixon spew repuke like Rasmussen? She hasn't been running a lot of ads now but she's bought a bunch of air time in October

(6,045 posts)being a "Blue Dog" Democrat in MO hurts her at all...If she were running in New York then your claim would have more weight but not in MO or any other Red State.
I find it very ODD how many of my fellow Liberals tend to think being a Blue Dog in a Red State is why certain Democrats in Red States are losing...This makes ZERO sense. Just because we Liberals have a negative view of Blue Dog or Conservative Democrats does not mean Conservatives hold the same view.

(4,423 posts)I know many Conservatives where I work, I also know some moderates that vote Democrat sometimes and Repub other times, the theme with both groups is going like this....
Obama racked up nearly 6 trillion in his first term that is more than Bush spent in 2 terms and Bush had 911, Katrina, two wars and the TARP bailout as well as creating massive government in the form of TSA, Homeland Security, etc.... The fiscal future under Obama's spending plan is bleak, the Senate Democrats have not passed a budget in over three years, there is a fiscal crisis on the horizon and the Senate Democrats do nothing and refuse to even vote on budgets passed by Paul Ryan and Repubs in the House. Claire MacCaskill is to blame for not standing up to Harry Reid...
Next Claire MacCaskill voted for Obamacare, Obamacare is a massive tax as defined by the SCOTUS, Obamacare which isn't even fully implemented will add over 2 trillion to the national debt over its first 10 years and that estimate may increase in time, Obamacare will become just another welfare give away that is going to come back and haunt the middleclass taxpayers as the rich find new ways to avoid the taxman.
I hear it all...... Even though she voted against extending unemployment the right doesn't give a crap she voted for Obamacare and she must be destroyed that's all they know...

If the repukes win, they deserve to lose their Medicare, social security, and continue to have their jobs off-shored, by their rethugs who started this mess

(43,258 posts)if repukes win, as you put it, they will be safe and secure in their whites only
country clubs living in gated communities in upscale suburbs or rural estates
and have no worries about off-shoring because they hold white collar jobs.
Off-shoring is a good thing to them because it gooses their stock portfolios,
and they prefer defense spending to social spending for the same reason.

(12,432 posts)That concerns me. My thoughts are........ one is valued by their actions . Is she not in the Senate today as a Democrat? Of course she is...we put her there.
To distance oneself from your support group, your family for fear of being seen as a likeness to that group...well that shows some level of shame and /or one can conclude this person is being deceptive...or fake to ones constituents.
It just looks bad...

(12,432 posts)For me...it is a mandatory meeting. Heck, she could go and leave early verse vocally announcing, " I'm not going to the Democratic Convention".
Is she attempting to give the impression she does not care about President Obama? I don't think she thought this through at all. I will support every Democratic candidate, but they need to show up.... let me know they are working as hard as I am for the Party.

Amen brother.
IMO McCaskill is a mealy mouthed Blue Dog and we are at a point in our politics where real Democrats do not like her and God knows the Republicans won't vote for her, she is screwed. One less seat in the Senate, but do we really need the likes of Claire who vote so many times against their own party...

(10,857 posts)The Republicans have a hard sell on their hands--and it is a sell.
Somehow, they have to convince Republican voters to give up to $3000 in taxes in order to reelect Republicans. They are blocking an extension of the middle class tax cuts right now.
Or, Republican voters can not vote at all and pay themselves.
Ever met a Republican who wouldn't take the money?
