AP sources: Trump tells senators House health bill 'mean'

Source: ABC News

President Donald Trump told Republican senators Tuesday that the House-passed health care bill is "mean" and urged them to craft a version that is "more generous," congressional sources said.

The president's comments, at a White House lunch with 15 GOP senators, came as Senate Republican leaders' attempts to write their own health care package have been slowed by disagreements between their party's conservative and moderates.

Trump's remarks were a surprising critique of a Republican-written House measure whose passage he lobbied for and praised. At a Rose Garden ceremony minutes after the bill's narrow House passage, Trump called it "a great plan."

His comments also seemed to undercut efforts by Senate conservatives to include restrictions in their chamber's bill, such as cutting the Medicaid health care program for the poor and limiting the services insurers must cover. Moderate GOP senators have been pushing to ease those efforts.

He undercuts his own plan, OMG, WTF is wrong with him? I seriously think he's either totally fucking with everyone, per Pootie's demands, or he has early stage dementia.

Now, I'm glad to hear this, but it doesn't stand the sniff test. Guess maybe he saw his terrible poll #'s and is trying to get in better graces with the working people who (stupidly) voted for him?

With 100 members of the House all laughing and giggling about cutting 20+ million people off insurance?

The Republican Party is now responsible for it. They need to pass a bill that actually helps people.

I'd go to Vegas and bet the house on that one.

He realizes nothing because he knows nothing; "Who knew...?" And that lack of knowledge includes China, Korea, NATO, the middle east, Afghanistan, the military....

What he should realize is that he knows nothing and that the people who advise him also know nothing. Nothing. (Lookin' at you Jared!)

"Who" is me and I am going to die over this "mean" bill. Oh, sorry if I am "mean", it is only my life so no biggie. McConnell and Ryan are evil bastards who will live a long time with my blood on their hands as they sleep safe and sound in their warm, free health care beds at night. Sweet dreams you muthers!

This seems to be a continuing and developing phenomenon. I sometimes find myself in agreement with people that are firmly on the right wing.

George Will. Now Trump.

The House AHCA bill is not just mean, but incredibly mean. It is cruel. Most importantly, it is stupid.

The Senate is now writing a Senate bill in secret. The chances are that it will also be mean but incredibly cruel.

When even Trump begins to trash talking the House bill and expresses, however simply, that he hopes the Senate bill will not be so mean in what direction can the Senate turn?

If they make it too nice they know the Freedom Caucus will kill it.

But what if Trump is finally understanding that if any healthcare bill is to survive to make it to his desk that that bill has to have Democratic support? Wouldn't that be amazing?

The simple fact is that if Trump is to deliver on his campaign promise of a repealing the ACA and replacing it with something better he will have to work with Democrats. It won't happen any other way.

That means that whatever the Senate comes up with will have to eliminate many of the key provisions of the draconian House AHCA bill including bringing back preexisting conditions, lifetime insurance maximums, and getting rid of the the ACA Medicaid expansion.

The key question is can Trump let himself be this politically smart? Is he beginning to realize that the Republican party is essentially a dry hole?

We will see. I personally believe Trump is one of the dumbest people that has ever occupied elective office of any level much less the Presidency.

I still think this will not end well.

supporters who are angry at him for the travesty of a "health care bill" Congress is putting together? No, more likely an attempt to distance himself from the bill if it passes so he can blame Congress for it.
