Trump Pondered Firing Mueller; His Aides Pushed Back
Source: MSN/NY Times
WASHINGTON Last months appointment of Robert S. Mueller III as a special counsel to investigate possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia enraged President Trump. Yet, at least initially, he holstered his Twitter finger and publicly said nothing.
But behind the scenes, the president soon began entertaining the idea of firing Mr. Mueller even as his staff tried to discourage him from something they believed would turn a bad situation into a catastrophe, according to several people with direct knowledge of Mr. Trumps interactions.
For now, the staff has prevailed. While the president has every right to fire Mr. Mueller, he has no intention to do so, the White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters late Tuesday after a day of speculation over Mr. Muellers fate.
Mr. Trump, angered by reports in Breitbart News and other conservative news media that Mr. Mueller was close to James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director he had fired, repeatedly brought up the political and legal implications of firing someone he viewed as incapable of an impartial investigation.

(115,869 posts)The White House sounds like a lunatic asylum, and the primary inmate is running it. But being perpetually enraged is bad for a person's health. He really should chill a bit, have a nice overdone steak with a side of KFC and mashed potatoes, followed up with a beautiful piece of chocolate cake with two scoops of ice cream.
If he thinks he's in the middle of a shitstorm now, just wait for what happens if he fires Mueller.

Other republicans will tell us how firing Mueller doesn't mean Trump is guilty of obstructing justice. That he is merely thinking like the CEO he is and that he doesn't understand the optics of political conflicts.
And then.....what?
Congressional republicans don't care.
They, like Trump, are giving Americans the finger as it is already.
The system, currently controlled by republicans, isn't going to stop Trump. We can't count on any safeguards because republicans want to turn the system on its head and force their cultural and economic views down our throats - and Trump allows them the best chance they have ever had.
They don't care - it bears repeating. Appeals to common decency won't work on them. They don't give a fuck about our democracy or rules and laws. They see all of that as an impediment to their goals.
Republicans ceased being Americans a long time ago. At least Americans as we define Americans and America. They're not looking to preserve - they are looking to force the rest of us to yield to them.

(49,045 posts)The law says he can only be fired for "good cause", if I understand reports.
Unhappiness, or fear, is not good cause. If he were fired not for good cause, that would be yet more grounds for impeachment (again, obstruction of justice).
