About 46,000 without power after storms roll through Omaha area; roofs, siding blow off in Bellevue
Source: Omaha World Herald
By Andrew J. Nelson
Bellevue resident Rick Koeppen looked out the window Friday night as he went down to his basement in response to the storm and sirens.
Thats when he saw his neighbors shed blow away.
Koeppen, who lives in the Hyda Hills neighborhood near 23rd Avenue and Platteview Road, said he looked around at his house and before sheltering in a closet.
I basically blew a kiss to all my stuff because I thought Id never see it again, he said.

(1,105 posts)but it's looking like we may be in for one hell of a summer weather wise. This from CNN:
"CNN meteorologist and hot-weather enthusiast Pedram Javaheri said this heat wave could be one for the history books.
"When you look at Phoenix, a city where record temperatures have been kept since August of 1895, there have been over 45,000 calendar days. Only four have reached or exceeded 119 degrees Fahrenheit and Tuesday could be the fifth in 45,000 days of record-keeping," Javaheri said. "
According to the forecast for the Phoenix area it's actually Tues, Wed, AND Thurs that could meet or exceed 119 degrees. When you have a sample of 45,000 days and in that period only 4 of those days have reached or exceeded 119 and then in ONE week you have the potential to have THREE days that reach or exceed that temperature THAT IS A SIGNIFICANT EVENT!!!!!
One of the many problems involving very high temperatures is that when cold air masses come in contact with those high temps seriously violent storms become the norm.
Keep your head on a swivel and be prepared for the worst, this summer could be a real challenge to deal with for people around the world.

(120 posts)the el nino that kept them away is no longer there and the water is warmer. There is no driving force to steer them away from FL this year. Yeah it could be a bad summer for all.....and there is no climate change just changes in weather that happen every so many years....assholes. Hopefully we won't need FEMA here but if we do I almost loath the response from Trump. He will make sure his property is save and screw the rest. Kinda like our gov.

(12,153 posts)My son said there's devastation all around them, but their house withstood the storm. Everyone in the area is without electrical power. My other son and his family live in nearby Papillion, and they're all right too, but the siding was torn off one side of their house and their picket fence is missing some pickets. They also lost two trees. Their daughter (my eldest granddaughter) and her husband and their two little children live just outside of Fremont and lost some trees too, but they saved a nest of baby owls they found on the ground. The owlets weren't hurt, just confused. Poor babies. Jen and Dev will contact wildlife people to find out what to do with them.
Glad the storm is over with and that they're all OK!
Thank you for asking, blaze.
