I can do whatever I want: Nunes admits he was never going to recuse himself from the House Russia

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) on Monday addressed his non-recusal from the House Intelligent Committee’s investigation into Russia hacking and possible collusion with Donald Trump’s campaign, arguing, “I can do whatever I want.”

“I can do whatever I want, I’m the chairman of the committee,” Nunes said, according to CNN. “I voluntarily, temporarily stepped aside from leading the investigation.”

In April, Nunes said he would step aside from the Russia probe after the House ethics committee opened in investigation into his handling of classified information. Nunes briefly derailed the House Russia probe when held a press conference to discuss sensitive information that purported to show the Obama administration “unmasked” members of the Trump transition team through routine, legal surveillance. Trump would later say that press conference made him feel “somewhat” vindicated for his baseless claim that Obama wiretapped Trump Tower during the campaign.

“When I temporarily stepped aside from leading the investigation, that’s exactly what it means: It doesn’t mean I wasn’t going to be involved, it doesn’t mean I wasn’t going to be fully read in,” Nunes said.

but his name is pronounced Noons (like multiple mid-days) It's spelled Nunes (no "Z&quot , but everyone wants to make it sound hispanic. I point this out because this ass hole is our "Reprehens.... er, Representative. BIG Ag's money makes Nunes not even notice the little folk - which is funny cause they seem to think he's great! Of course, so many little folk (middle-to-lower class) are directly or indirectly associated with BIG Ag, that it's understandable why these sheeple vote for Doofus every time.

His family is of Portuguese descent, having immigrated from the Azores (again, per Wikipedia). It is not noted whether his parents or an earlier generation were the original immigrants to the U.S.

It's not uncommon for immigrants to spell or pronounce their names differently than they pronounced them in their native countries. I know this from my own Italian relatives. But this is not a case of "everyone wants to make it sound Hispanic." His surname, a Portuguese one, WAS Hispanic and almost certainly pronounced as a two-syllable word originally.

Hispania was the whole peninsula, in historical times. Now, "Hispanic" has multiple meanings. "Hispanic" is not synonymous with "Spanish"

He's trying to keep Lajes Field open! Lajes just happens to be located in the Azores!!!

Despite NATO and non-NATO fighter and transport planes which continue to use Lajes on a regular basis, the US DoD movements are now at an all-time low. With more and more airplanes making use of air-to-air refueling, Lajes has been for some periods of time, ranging from weeks to months, almost deserted except for the occasional C-130 or KC-135.

On 14 December 2012 it was announced that personnel at Lajes Field will be reduced in 2014 with a reduction of 400 military personnel and 500 family members. After these reductions about 900 military personnel and their family members will remain. Rep. Devin Nunes (R., Calif.) has questioned the studies that showed cost savings to be had from moving operations to England.
