Over 50 House GOPers Sign Letter Urging Ruth Bader Ginsburg To Recuse Herself From Travel Ban Case

Source: Mediaite

by Joseph A. Wulfsohn | 7:43 am, June 27th, 2017

On Monday, 58 Republican congressmen signed a letter requesting Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to recuse herself from the travel ban case that the Supreme Court will be hearing in October due to her publicized criticism of President Trump.

The lawmakers allege that she must by law recuse herself because she has a “personal bias or prejudice concerning a party” and her “impartiality might reasonably be questioned.”

Last summer, Justice Ginsburg expressed that she “didn’t want to think about the possibility” of Trump becoming president. She had even suggested to move to New Zealand simply to avoid a Trump presidency.

Some of the more notable names on the letter include Jim Jordan (R-OH), Mark Meadows (R-NC), Louie Gohmert (R-TX), and Steve King (R-IO).

The Supreme Court reversed the lower courts’ decision on the highly-debated travel ban by reinstating most of it, which President Trump has called a “clear victory.”

Made boatloads in speaking to very conservative political groups and yet how often were they called upon to recuse themselves?? Why am I not surprised to see King and Gohmert's signature on this??

When Justice Antonin Scalia was asked to recuse himself from a case involving Vice President Dick Cheney, with whom he often hunted and dined? Silence from the Reich wing.

When emails showed Justice Clarence Thomas' wife pushing Trump's travel ban and did not recuse himself? Silence from the Reich wing.

When Justice Thomas failed to disclose his and his wife's $700,000 received from the Reich-wing Heritage Foundation for the better part of the last 20 years? Silence from the Reich wing.

On whether Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas should have BOTH recused themselves in the case, "Citizens United" because of their attendance at past retreats organized by Charles Koch, whose company operates a foundation that is a major contributor to political advocacy groups? Silence from the Reich wing.

When it was revealed that Ginni Thomas created one of those 501(c)(4) organizations just after oral arguments were argued before her husband in the Citizens United case, and somehow managed to raise some $550,000 in about two months' time before the end of 2009 demanding Thomas' recusal? Silence from the Reich wing.

When it was revealed that Ginni Thomas lead an organization that vigorously opposes the Affordable Care Act, signing a memo calling that Act unconstitutional while earning lobbying fees to have the Act repealed and Thomas should have recused himself? Silence from the Reich wing.

When it was revealed that Justice Scalia accepted more than 280 privately-paid-for jaunts to luxury destinations by those who had cases before the court? Silence from the Reich wing.

When EPA head Scott Pruitt refused to recuse himself from lawsuits HE brought against the EPA? Silence from the Reich wing.

When it was revealed both Ivanka and Melania were flogging their positions for their own personal gain? Silence from the Reich wing.

Screw these bastards.

Scalia never recused himself, even when he took paid vacations from Cheney, he still included himself on the lawsuit against Cheney and voted in favor of the VP. Did Roberts (or was it Alito?) recuse himself after calling Obama a liar - NO and neither should RBG. Repugs are so sorry, they always want separate rules for themselves compared to Dems. They are total hypocrites with no moral foundation whatsoever.

it's never enough. Control the executive branch? Check. Control the House? Check. Control the Senate? Check. Have a majority on the Supreme Court? Check--but we need FULL control. Let no dissenting voice be heard.

when the ACA was being presented before the US Supreme Court. Justice Thomas's wife, Ginny Thomas, was part of an anti-ACA group that were holding rallies and raising monies to defeat the passage of the ACA, or Obamacare. He saw no conflict of interest.

Asking RBG to recuse herself from hearing the Muslim Ban is hypocritical at best. She will more than likely say...NO. Good for her. For this is not a Travel Ban, but a Muslim Ban and RBG will ask hard hitting questions Trump's Solicitor General will not be able to answer.

various lower court injunctions (prohibiting) the travel ban. Now the ban in in effect.

If the more progressives judges had a problem with Trumps ban, they could have voted to let the injunctions stand - effectively killing the ban.

Why did they let it go forward?!

If RBG recuses herself, the Repukes will demand she, Breyer, Kagan and Sotomayor recuse themselves on every case from now to the end of time.
