Man accused of destroying Oklahoma Ten Commandments monument arrested in Arkansas for same crime

OKLAHOMA CITY A man who drove into the Ten Commandments monument at the Oklahoma State Capitol has allegedly done the same thing in a neighboring state.
In October 2014, authorities say the granite monument that sat outside the Oklahoma Capitol was destroyed when Michael Reed rammed his car into it.
. . .
Reeds family insisted that crashing into the Ten Commandments monument was not a religious or political statement, but rather a result of a mental health issue.
I am a born-again Christian who speaks in tongues, and I Love God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I love going to church, and I love reading the Bible. Anyone who knows me knows this is true. I want to share with lost people that Gods love is real, Reed wrote in a letter to the Tulsa World.

Words aren't critters or objects.
In instances like this, though, it's really a call for having a group's identity included in the public space, where the group perceives itself marginalized and excluded. (You may disagree with the perceptions and say they can't possibly have any clue about what they really feel, but that's a slippery slope.) It's like having a creche complemented by some atheist or Muslim-related display. It's like having a textbook that must include all the various identifies of the readership. Leaving some group out isn't just an error, not presenting the group as it perceives itself isn't just letting the dominant view be dominant, it's an act of intentional and active disrespect and oppression.

(10,159 posts)The version in my Catholic catechism made no mention of "graven idols": the second commandment is about taking the name of the lord in vain, or blasphemy.
So my question every time someone proposes posting the Ten Commandments is, whose commandments? And Leviticus has a whole lot more than ten to begin with.
