Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Elizabeth Warren has been given a primetime speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention.
Warren, who is hoping to oust Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, will address the Charlotte, N.C. convention on Sept. 5, just before former President Bill Clinton delivers his speech.
Warren is a popular figure among more liberal Democrats
She headed the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, the committee that examined the bank bailout. Warren was also the leading advocate for a consumer financial protection agency created under the 2010 overhaul of financial regulations

(40,416 posts)Well, Romney is very likely to get spanked by Ms. Warren. But Big Dawg comes to the podium next. That's when the Mittster will be properly spanked. And when Big Dawg spanks, you'll remain spanked.

(16,916 posts)which I was hoping for, she just was given a "key spot" - but amen for that!
The Mayor of San Antonio, Julian Castro, gets the keynote address. Here's a clip of him at the Texas Dem Convention:

(7,865 posts)This tends to be an indicator light as to how much the party values the speaker. I wouldn't be surprised if her name isn't kicked around for president in 2016 or as a VP choice.

(59,504 posts)At this point it is a very close race for her - even though Obama is way ahead in MA. It is her first race ever. She could raise to be seen as President or VP, but first she needs to win this race.

(7,865 posts)Most of the polling data has been deeply flawed and the reporting on it has been selective. Warren is gonna cream this creep.
I won't argue that this is a factor, but there are far closer races that could benefit from this. Of course several of them are blue dogs and there is little reason to throw them a bone as they are likely to be more succesful if they appear to be outside the party proper and the president is likely to be more popular with the public at large and with committed Democratic party activists if he focuses more on the "democratic wing of the Democratic party."
Still being key in a national convention still suggests good things for the future.
