BPOs welcome US Senate rejection of anti-outsourcing bill

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine business process outsourcing industry breathed a sigh of relief as the US Senate rejected the so-called "Bring Jobs Home Act."

The bill, which would have elimated existing tax breaks for US firms that ship jobs to other countries, was blocked by Republicans at the US Senate. This despite President Barack Obama's earlier push for legislation that would encourage companies to bring back jobs to the US.

"Outsourcing business services to the Philippines helps make American companies more competitive and profitable. Profitable companies hire more workers, both here, and in the United States," Benedict Hernandez, Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) president and CEO, said, in a statement.

BPAP cited a study showing that outsourcing does not have an impact on job losses in the US.

I won't do biz with a company that outsources. I've canceled credit cards, changed banks, etc.

on the phone anymore that hasn't been outsourced.
I called what I thought was US company yesterday for some help on my computer and I got some girl who spoke good english but had an accent that made her all but incoherent.
I hung up the phone and went to a local repair shop and for $50.00, they fixed the problem and they were americans.

This bill should have been a no brainer, maybe that's the problem, repubs are no brainers.

maybe that is one of the reasons that sears is having such difficulties these days. if they don't work for us then they work for them and we all know who 'them' are. i believe in the boycott as our most effective tool against the pigs!

It's misleading for anyone to imply this was Senate action, rather than a Republican one.

I honestly do not know how the average Filipino can survive in that country.Go into any supermarket, and the employes that are there are under a 3 month contract. The employers here rotate employees on contact so they don't have to pay any benefits. The colleges here churn graduates out by the thousands with no prospects of employment.Additionally, part of the students graduation is dependent working for free for a specified amount of time.6months is average. I have a niece that is a nurse, she has to work for free for 6 months. These "employers" milk the system for all it is worth, and don't offer any pay for transportation or meals or anything. This is after the parents have scratched and saved to put their kids thru college. Most of these families can barely afford to send their kids to college in the first place, and in the end, their only hope is that the kids can go abroad to make a living and send some money home for the family.

I could go on,but it would make you sick. And the US just keeps sending money to the fat cat Filipino Politicians who fold it up neatly and insert it into their wallets.

Yep...It's a Republicans wet dream here.

The biggest export of the Philippines,is Filipinos.

The poverty level in the Philippines is rated at 46P a day. That's US $1.10 per day

The Republicans would be glad to bring jobs back to America, if Americans were willing to live like this

In the interest of accuracy call center employees make 14.000 PHP a year and supervisors make 18,000PHP

That's US$ 3163.00 per year for two years experience US$3913 for a supervisor

I leave it up to someone else to determine what standard of living that buys in the Philippines.
