Donald Trumps daughter, Ivanka, took his seat at a Group of 20 meeting table in Hamburg, sitting in for the president when he stepped away for one-on-one meetings with world leaders.
A photo on Twitter shows Ivanka Trump sitting at her fathers place, between Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Theresa May. One official who was watching the session said she has taken her fathers place at the table on at least two occasions today and did not speak.
A spokesman for Ivanka Trump said she had been sitting in the back of the room and then briefly joined the main table when the president stepped out. The president of the World Bank addressed the meeting, which was about African migration and health -- areas that would benefit from a facility that Ivanka Trump and the World Bank had announced shortly before the meeting, the spokesman said.
G-20 leaders are allowed to bring staff into the room for some of the meetings, and when other leaders stepped out during todays session, their seats were briefly filled by others. Ivanka Trump serves as an unpaid adviser to her father, as an assistant to the president.

(11,566 posts)The U. S. is being represented by a vacuous and completely unqualified child of the president at an important financial meeting of world leaders. We can thank Republicans and the conservative corporate media for acting on behalf of a few cranky billionaires, and their extremist agenda. China, Russia, and others are already stepping into the vacuum left by our abdication. The U. S. has become a laughingstock and losers in the eyes of the world.

(9,426 posts)of politics!! I may have an explanation of her constant presence at meetings' There may be a transceiver imbeded in those huge teeth, transmitting all the details to a recorder outside the room? In TV interviews, she comes across as not too bright, having to carefully consider each answer. Is she getting messages from someone? Maybe Vlad has the tRumps supplied with the latest spyware gadgets? Dear God, I think the total insanity of this entire administration is getting to me. Another day, another unexplainable tRump move. When will this END, so we can start the hard work of getting this country back to SANITY, with intelligent people in office?

(4,066 posts)The Republicans would be calling for Hillary's head (like that would be anything new). They'd be exploding across the TEEVEE news and internet, non-stop 24x7 about how it was wrong. And, it IS wrong. Wrong for Ivanka and it would be wrong for Chelsea too (not that Hillary is that stupid to do something like this). There should be some elected or appointed and approved official there. Not a freaking family member.

(9,350 posts)It seems to me that Donald Trump is trying to put Ivanka Kushner is position to be the first female President of the United States. The Republicans who thought they could control this family better look out. Some Republicans may be hoping for a Pence Presidency, but they may end up getting a Kushner Presidency.
I think Trump is trying to position Ivanka in a way in which he can say she has already proven she can be President. She is meeting world leaders and sitting in on meetings for him. She is also working for him in the White House. Whether it is because of scandal, or just due to her trying to run for President on her own they will push her for President.
Second, why is this man always complaining about the struggles of his family. He is always trying to claim that he or his family members have such a hard life. At the end of this article, he claimed that Ivanka's life would be so much easier if she were not his daughter. If she was not his daughter she would not be where she is or have what she has. Everything she has is because she is his daughter. She is not working in the White House, meeting with world leaders, or sitting in on summit meetings because she is the most qualified person. She is doing so because she is the daughter of the President of the United States. It hardly gets any easier than getting things based on you father.

(24,703 posts)Ivanka Trump Briefly Takes Her Fathers Seat At G20 Leaders Meeting

On Saturday, a Russian official tweeted out a photo, that has since been deleted, of first daughter Ivanka Trump sitting in her fathers place at a meeting of world leaders at the G20 summit on the topic of African migration and health.
Ivanka, an unpaid but official White House adviser, briefly took President Donald Trumps seat between Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Theresa May when Trump stepped out of the room.
A White House official told the Associated Press that Ivanka Trump had been sitting in the back of the room, and moved forward when the president of the World Bank began discussing topics related to a new womens entrepreneurship fund she is working on.
The official said that when other leaders stepped out, their seats were also briefly filled by others, AP reported.
The stand-ins for other heads of state, however, were government ministers or senior officials, not a family member with no previous foreign policy experience. Several U.S. pundits condemned the move as grotesque and reminiscent of a banana republic.
Just a few weeks ago, in an interview on Fox News, Ivanka Trump said that she tries to stay out of politics.

(46,116 posts)My impression of the father-daughter dynamic in this situation is that Trump could have commanded/directed Ivanka to sit in his chair while he "did some business". Ivanka doesn't impress me as someone who regularly disobeys an order from her father.
