Trump Jr. attorney: He 'did nothing wrong' by meeting with Russian lawyer

Source: Politico

Donald Trump Jr. “did nothing wrong” when he met last year with a Russian lawyer who had ties to the Kremlin, his lawyer said Monday.

...snip...

“Robert Goldstone contacted Don, Jr. in an email and suggested that people had information concerning alleged wrongdoing by Democratic Party front-runner, Hillary Clinton, in her dealings with Russia,” Futerfas said in a statement Monday. “Don Jr.’s takeaway from this communication was that someone had information potentially helpful to the campaign and it was coming from someone he knew. Don Jr. had no knowledge as to what specific information, if any, would be discussed.”

“Further, at no time was there ever any understanding or commitment that he, or anyone else, would find the information, whatever it turned out to be, to be reliable, credible or of interest, or would even survive due diligence,” he continued. “The meeting lasted about 20-30 minutes, and nothing came of it. His father knew nothing about it. The bottom line is that Don, Jr. did nothing wrong.”

1. Taken in isolation, "nothing wrong". But is likely the tip of iceberg or the signoff of the collusio

The meeting could have been the sign off for the collusion. It could have been the culmination of a series of entreaties and offers.

Why else have three of the biggest people in the Trump organization & campaign attend?

The first thing that should come to anyone's mind is they must contact the FBI if they believe there is wrongdoing by a political candidate. Especially if they knew a foreign nation was involved. He should have contacted the FBI before going to the meeting.

But applying American values likes honesty, integrity, honor and loyalty to the USA, Junior is as much a skanky skuzzbucket traitor as his father, Comrade Casino, the republican Draft-Dodger-in-Chief.

5. Did he immediately contact the FBI afterwards to report the meeting?

Because that's what 'doing nothing wrong' would look like.

8. Yes, as bitterross above says. Should have contacted FBI between setup and actual meeting.

Not only did they not contact the FBI, but Kushner "forgot" to put it on his Security Clearance application.

All this points to it being more than a vague offer of Russian dirt on Hillary, but rather a culmination of a series of behind the scenes negotiations, perhaps via Carter Page / Flynn / Manafort / Stone with Russians.

6. After sleeping on it...he is lucky to have been a private citizen when he did it

If he was a government employee with a security clearance, and it was regarding someone that we were at war with or even ISIS and if he were the one offering the information, not looking for it, and if he had the information to offer, and he passed the information then he would be in jail like Reality Winner.

9. This may have been the start of a collusion.

I suspect the discussion was basically this:

-- We need dirt on Hillary

-- We will lift sanctions if we get into office

A few weeks later, the Hillary hacking info started pouring out. And the rest is history.

The issue isn't whether or not the info turns out to be valuable or worthless... it's that he went to get such info from foreign spies at all. What a ridiculous defense.
