Illinois treasurer, governor at odd over new state budget
Source: saukvalley.com
Springfield (AP) - The state's Democratic treasurer issued Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner an unsolicited to-do list for staving off fiscal failure Monday, directing the Republican to get behind the states first budget in 2 years and "dial down the rhetoric."
Treasurer Michael Frerichs, at times sounding like a boarding-school headmaster, told a Chicago news conference that Rauner must go to New York. There, Frerichs said, the multimillionaire former private equity investor must persuade credit-rating agencies that he's committed to the $36 billion spending plan that lawmakers enacted last week over his vetoes and hold off knocking Illinois' creditworthiness to "junk" status.
Rainer's office rejected the call and refused to pledge support for the enacted budget - which ended the nations longest state budget standoff since at least the Great Depression...

This ass of a governor needs to understand that you cannot run government like a business. He is not a CEO of a business who can run things unilaterally. He is as bad as 45, and needs to do the perp walk just as badly. Rauner the Ruiner is destroying my state.
Support Frerichs, people. Call, write, email.

(65,057 posts)I'm optimistic because he's not popular. If the dems hadn't been stained with Blagoevich, he wouldn't have won in the first place.

(30,741 posts)And the truth is, he purchased the office. He started campaigning early, at his own expense.
I wonder if this refusal is an impeachable offense. We have to put this guy in jail.

(963 posts)He is toast in 2018. He has devastated this state with his strictly pro-business/anti-union demands and his term limits requirements. He has completely ignored the poor, children, the elderly, and even the 9-1-1 call centers. His own staff nick-named him Satan. His own wife is against him.

(30,741 posts)Seriously?
I know about his contentious divorce from his first wife. She had to take legal action to stop him from buying any more luxury mansions. She was afraid there would be nothing left for her and her two children. It was still a very long, drawn-out divorce. The man does not know when to give up.
I despise him almost as much as I despise 45.

(963 posts)(CBS) Heres a twist that could make for some awkward dinner table conversation.
A not-for-profit organization led by first lady Diana Rauner is calling on lawmakers to override Gov. Bruce Rauners veto of an Illinois budget.
Diana Rauners Ounce of Prevention Fund and Illinois Action for Children issued a joint news release urging the Illinois House of Representatives to undo Gov. Rauners veto.

(30,741 posts)We talked after the event about the possibility that Rauner might refuse to spend the money in the budget. I don't know if that is still on, or if it is off. Yes, he is as bad as Trump.
If the money has been allocated now, we have to get Rauner to spend it. I don't think there is a way to impeach him over this.
I told Biss I could not support him because he supports term limits. I think this is the only way the repubbies have left to get back at Madigan. He is so powerful and they want to get rid of him.
I think we need Madigan right now. He kept his coalition together and got the budget veto overridden. He is doing his job. Madigan is the only thing standing between Rauner and turning Illinois into the equivalent of a third world country, or another Wisconsin. We don't need to do the republican's dirty work for them with term limits!
I said that to him at a group that is a grassroots organization that grew out of the Bernie "revolution." They were all horrified by my statements. I told him that we needed Madigan's discipline and ruthlessness. If Democrats across the country were as disciplined and ruthless as they are in Illinois, we would not have 45.
Do we have corruption? Of course we do, on both sides of the aisle. Do I condone it? Of course not. But we need numbers, and we need to stay strong. And where were all those people when some of us were busting our butts to get Quinn reelected? Quinn did not lose by much.
We can reform how we spend for pensions and change the state funding formula for education after we get The Ruiner out of office. We need someone to campaign on these issues, but let's get rid of Ruiner first.

(13,421 posts)His tenure on the U of Illinois Board of Trustees was not a smooth one, and there are a lot of harsh feelings for him after that. Front and center in that was the Salaita firing complete with the email crap:

Word is out that Kennedy is not doing well with unions, Emanuel, and Madigan. They all have either signed on with Pritzger or are expected to in the near future.
Full disclosure, I'm a fan of Biss right now, so do your own research to be sure I'm not blowing smoke. I fully intend to work the hell out of the entire Dem slate (post primary) this cycle, and I'm working to draw more candidates into races at all levels. I just agreed a few days ago to help advise a first time State Rep candidate, in fact. We have GOT to turn out this time. There is no other option.

(1,297 posts)I swear to god I've gotten phone "push polls" obviously run by his campaign every damn month since before he was elected and continuing to this day! Every now and again they'll call every week.. and I'll tell my husband "Rauner must really be worried!"
