Senate won't let Trump make recess appointments
Source: CNN
(CNN) Senators are planning to continue procedural moves to prevent the Senate from formally adjourning for recess next month in order to prevent President Donald Trump from making recess appointments, when the chamber eventually adjourns through the Labor Day weekend.
Using the threat of a filibuster, Democrats plan to force the Senate to hold pro forma sessions a practice both parties have carried out to block recess appointments from presidents of opposite party, Democratic and Republican aides say.

(58,785 posts)Above all there's the disaster of their plans to repeal Obamacare and "reform" the tax code, much of it created by him. His extreme incompetence and determination to throw his incompetent weight around really screwed them over in a lot more ways than just the critically important (almost $1 trillion-dollar cookie jar) healthcare "reform."

(58,785 posts)that nothing seems to be done doesn't mean nothing is happening. There are no doubt many other things happening we could know about if we checked.
A hugie I should have mentioned above, though, is that the strong social and religious rights really LIKE AG Sessions and his nasty, repressive agenda. To them he's the one person who's actually successfully restoring "morality" to this nation. This is another big concern for Rump, of course, because these people make up most of his base. And a big concern for us, of course, but that's another thread.

Ever since Shrub recess-appointed egregious people like Bolton and Reid started the practice... and Obama tried to test the validity of the pro-forma sessions with some NLRB appointments resulting in a SCOTUS decision affirming that the pro-forma sessions were valid as the Senate not being "in recess" (despite being gone but gaveling in every 3 days), doing pro-forma would pretty much be it as a near "permanent" practice.

(4,742 posts)With all of the hard talk on Fox, CNN, and MSNBC the Senators are all relatively friendly with each other. They dine together, drink together, party together, etc. They re exclusive and powerful. And at the end of the day most don't like Trump. The GOP has an agenda they want to accomplish which sadly includes Trump. But maybe the straw is starting to weigh on the camel's back.
