US conservatism expands to final frontier: City Hall

DENVER (AP) — For decades, a well-funded conservative group has helped state lawmakers across the U.S. write legislation to rein in unions, expand charter schools and lower taxes.

Now, it's expanding to the final frontier: normally nonpartisan city halls and county governments, which have become a bastion of liberal resistance to President Donald Trump.

The American Legislative Exchange Council is one of the country's most prominent conservative groups, and its annual convention in Denver last week drew thousands of state legislators and lobbyists for panels on school choice and marijuana legalization, as well as speeches from conservative luminaries like Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and former Senator James DeMint. But as attendees rubbed shoulders with the right's elite, a few dozen crowded into a small conference room for the fourth meeting of the American City County Exchange, the conservative group's new local government wing.

The city council project is the brainchild of Jon Russell, a councilman from the Virginia town of Culpepper, population 18,000. He was dissatisfied that the traditional, nonpartisan municipal groups, like the National League of Cities, seemed to constantly think more government was the answer to problems.

Ike was conservative. These corporate grease monkeys are outright fascists.

The Bush administration alone is proof enough of that.

talk radio - ignoring it.

now we have trump and just got to within one state legislature of them being able to call a constitutional convention, which, because dems ignore talk radio, will be a lot more about what a few billionaires and corporation and their alt reality talk radio ditto head base want on their behalf than what americans want.

besides the alt reality glue from the national liars like limbaugh hannity levin savage and a few hundred idiots who amplify and reinforce them with repetition, those stations can be and are coordinated at the local level, just one of the advantages it has over fox/tv, most internet, etc.

here's the math that's been working over our states and the country for 30 fucking years while liberals ignored it and blamed symptoms of a dysfunctional democracy, like money in politics -

at a cheap $1000/hr x 15hrs/day x 5 = $75,000/wk x 1200 stations rw talk radio is worth $18MIL/day or 390MIL$ /month or 4.68 BIL$/ year FREE for coordinated global warming denial, pro republican free market deregulation and wall st think tank propaganda, swiftboating, and the hate and fear used to get people to vote republican.

ALEC couldn't get anywhere before reagan killed the fairness doctrine in 87 and r-cons bought up a monopoly and subsidized it and limbaugh - then its successes exploded in the early 90s. now we have trump and dems still can't even poll for talk radio.

i'll bet 90% of the crap heard at that convention has been prechewed by 1200 radio stations for decades.

The latest that I could dig up (although via Murdoch's rag) - http://nypost.com/2017/07/17/investors-have-a-plan-to-save-iheart-from-bankruptcy/

Here we have the owner of the bulk of the stations previously owned by Clear Channel prior to their merger. They are in deep financial trouble and haven't turned a profit in 10 years (as I call it - their "donation" to the RW cause). But if some left-leaning millionaire or billionaire could come in and buy this up and then reprogram the whole lot of stations, we could be on our way.

But alas, I doubt it would ever happen.

that would be nice to see liberals buy it up and switch it out.

it really is ridiculous for wingers and the rw blowhards and even liberals to repeat the old talking points that the reason it's 95% rw talk is market demand! but it's just gotten trump elected and is still worth trillions to them. they'll use it to sell an iran attack soon.

russians wouldn't have to have been involved, but why not? the cheapest way for them to use rw radio would be to figure out how to feed limbaugh. maybe with breitbart.... r-cons and putin have many common interests promoting authoritarianism and destroying democracy so all they had to do was tweek it here and there and coordinate it with their internet and soc media trolling....

i wonder, is ivanka pronounced eye-vanka, like eye-raq and eye-ran?
