It shows your cosmopolitan bias!
During the White House press briefing on Wednesday, White House senior policy adviser Stephen Miller went off on CNNs Jim Acosta after Acosta pressed Miller about the racial implications of a new immigration bill backed by the Trump administration that gives English speakers preferred status.
Acosta, who mentioned that his father emigrated to the U.S. from Cuba in 1962 and obtained a Green Card, pointed out to Miller that people who emigrate to this country not through Ellis Island as your family may have but in others ways do obtain a Green Card at some point, they do it through a lot of hard work, and yes, they may learn English as a second language later on in life, but this whole notion of, Well, they have to learn English before they get to the United States are we just going to bring in people from Great Britain and Australia?
Acostas question caused Miller to quickly lose his cool.
Jim, I have to honestly say, I am shocked at your statement that you think that only people form Great Britain and Australia would know English, Miller said. Its actually it reveals your cosmopolitan bias to a shocking degree that in your mind no, this is an amazing moment, this is an amazing moment that you think only people from Great Britain or Australia would speak English is so insulting to millions of hard-working immigrants from all over the world.

Trump aide Stephen Millers raucous arguments at a White House press briefing on Wednesday was sure to ruffle some feathers and, predictably, the Internet had a lot to say about it.
During Wednesdays briefing, Miller and CNNs Jim Acosta got into it over President Donald Trumps controversial new immigration policy and the meaning of the huddled masses quote engraved on the Statue of Liberty. Naturally, Twitter had a lot to say about it.
Stephen Miller proves that if you dont want your new immigration plan to be called racist, dont let it be presented by a creepy racist, actor John Fugelsang tweeted.
Poor Stephen Miller is getting very upset, another user wrote. Its really hard when the facts, data and truth are not on your side Stephen.

It usually meant they were fairly well educated. My GP's in that group. So was my endocrinologist. And my former dentist. Neither of them are what you'd call "white." (I might, but that depends on what race you put Persians into.) My current GP's Nigerian, so few would call him white. Beyonce, Barack Obama, even Michelle Obama are "whiter".
Note that universities require the TOEFL or something like it for international students. Apparently all foreign students in the US these days must be from Great Britain and Australia.
(I think that the assumption is that all those people of color who immigrate, well, they must all be uneducated and so they can't know basic English. I'm not going to assume "immigrant of color" = uneducated. There's going to be a bias, a racial skew, there, but it's not this binary opposition. If we're going to argue racism here, I'd like it if we argued reasonably instead of using racist straw men. Right now both sides can be accused of blowing them little ultrasonic whistles.)

As someone who is responsible for hiring faculty at a state university, I can tell you that many, many, many of our researchers speak only limited English when they get here. Their resumes and ongoing research accomplishments are incredibly impressive. They are usually sponsored by someone on faculty that does speak their native language and they aren't teaching in a classroom. They may be the one who discovers a cure for cancer or other diseases that can affect any one of us. They do this for very little pay and I have yet to see too many Americans in their age group who can even come close to their level of experience.
We deny these people entrance at our own peril. The rest of the world will move on while the US keeps falling further behind because the deplorables decide the direction of our country.
