Trump argues he won New Hampshire because it is a 'drug-infested den'

Source: CNN

Story highlights

Trump lashed out at Peña Nieto for the quantity of illegal drugs that come into the US from Mexico
He later bragged that he won the Granite State because of the opioid epidemic

Washington (CNN)...........................

The comment was quickly decried by Republican and Democratic lawmakers in the Granite State, including the state's Republican governor who endorsed Trump during the 2016 campaign.

.........................

Republican New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu flatly said Trump's statement was "wrong" in a statement on Thursday.
"It's disappointing his mischaracterization of this epidemic ignores the great things this state has to offer," he said. "We are already seeing positive signs of our efforts as overdoses and deaths are declining in key parts of the state. In spite of this crisis, New Hampshire remains the best place to live, work and raise a family."

New Hampshire's two Democratic senators also blasted the comments.
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen tweeted that Trump needed to apologize to the state of New Hampshire and "then should follow through on his promise to Granite Staters to help end this crisis."

"It's absolutely unacceptable for the President to be talking about NH in this way -- a gross misrepresentation of NH & the epidemic," she wrote.

Sen. Maggie Hassan called Trump's comments "disgusting."............................

What's Shat Stain's problem with NH? First, there was the thousands of undocumenteds pouring in to vote in the general, then this bs.

Yes, we have something of a drug problem here; it's entirely home grown.

coincidentally the red states he won have high rates of opioid addiction. Is there a correlation that people who are dealing with addiction voted for a crazy man who might be drug addicted himself?

New Hampshire officials blast Trump's 'drug-infested den' comment

Scott Malone

(Reuters) - New Hampshire officials from both parties lashed out on Thursday after a report that U.S. President Donald Trump called their state a "drug-infested den," with several saying his push to repeal Obamacare would worsen the nation's opioid crisis.

Democratic U.S. Senator and former Governor Maggie Hassan turned to Twitter, one of the Republican president's favorite arenas of political combat, to chastise Trump for his January remark, which the Washington Post revealed on Thursday.

"@realDonaldTrump's comments about New Hampshire are disgusting," Hassan said, referring to Trump by one of his Twitter handles. "As he knows, NH and states across America have a substance misuse crisis. Instead of insulting people in the throes of addiction, @POTUS needs to work across party lines to actually stem the tide of this."

Trump's reported comment came in a Jan. 27 phone call with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, according to a transcript published by the newspaper. The White House did not respond to a request for comment on the story.
