President Trump has exchanged private messages with Russia special counsel Robert Mueller
Source: USA Today
WASHINGTON President Trump has publicly called the widening federal investigation into Russia's election meddling a "witch hunt." But through his lawyer, Trump has sent private messages of "appreciation" to special counsel Robert Mueller.
"He appreciates what Bob Mueller is doing,'' Trump's chief counsel John Dowd told USA TODAY in an interview Tuesday. "He asked me to share that with him and that's what I've done.''
Trump's legal team has been in contact with Mueller's office, and Dowd says he has passed along the president's messages expressing appreciation and greetings to the special counsel.
The president has sent messages back and forth, Dowd said, declining to elaborate further.

That is a pretty f-ing ridiculous statement, implying Mueller 'writes back' ... but w/o saying so...cause I'm sure he doesn't.

(47,209 posts)Would likely only reply in an email or something else certified and explain the proper limits of their communication. Trump is obsessed with pretending he has a personal connection to everyone and they "like" each other and that is some sort of substitution for actually having a working relationship- policies, initiatives, or a process of any kind. He can't get past the I like this guy bullsht.

(24,259 posts)I could see it being considered such IF what Trump's lawyer said happened actually did and I'm very sure that Mueller knows how this 'game' might be played. At the very least it comes across as an unethical way for Trump's lawyer to sway, bait, etc someone in charge of investigating a case(s).
Since you seem to be familiar with the term I'm curious as to what you think?

(19,359 posts)implies an exchange, but the syntax "Trump has sent them back and forth" implies only one sender.
Why are they implying a cordial exchange? Do they think this will dissuade Mueller? No. These are smart lawyers.
Are they trying to imply that Mueller has friendly feelings for Trump so they can can portray him as a lying, back-stabbing hypocrite when he finds what he eventually will? Does Trump think that would help anger the base, re-energize their flagging polls, and frighten the Republican Congress and Senate from impeaching Trump despite Mueller's report?
A Hail Mary, perhaps?

If he sent letters to Mueller, I bet the response was *nothing* so I call bullshit on this story.
It's improper behavior and shows he's scared.

(49,032 posts)Ask Jeb Bush. With a rush of energy and spectacular byplay, which manages to fake out many of the observers, the various weaknesses and limited capabilities of his opponents are quickly revealed, and Trump can be unrelenting, collapsing one line of assault and switching to a second or third, before the opponent can even get the guns turned.
Best damned job he has ever had in his life.
