White House lawyer Cobb predicts quick end to Mueller probe

Source: Reuters

AUGUST 18, 2017 / 2:49 PM / 27 MINUTES AGO

Karen Freifeld

(Reuters) - The White House lawyer brought in to deal with special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election said he believed the focus of the probe was "narrow" and the aspects related to President Donald Trump should be completed before the end of the year.

The lawyer, Ty Cobb, who joined the White House staff on July 31, made the comments in interviews with Reuters on Tuesday and Wednesday. He declined to provide specifics backing his outlook, which contradicts media reports that the scope of Mueller’s probe is expanding and the views of several outside experts that the investigation is likely to continue well into 2018.

"I'd like to see the president out from under this by Thanksgiving, but certainly by year end," Cobb said, adding that he would be "embarrassed" otherwise. "I think the relevant areas of inquiry by the special counsel are narrow."

Mueller is investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, among other matters. Moscow has denied interfering in the election and the president has denied collusion took place.

Or they're just playing him for a fool.

Trump believes that just saying something, makes it true. Perhaps that is what Cobb is doing.

It doesn't matter what he'd like to see, they'll be done when they finish. They could "narrow" the scope to financial crimes and that mess could go on for years.

HE knows he's lying. The TEAM knows he's lying. Yet, they shout and chant... hoot and holler... clap, stomp and cheer as if they actually have a chance of defeating the first-place team.

Kinda sad, actually. But fun to watch.

Fuck 'em.

to investigate obstruction of justice, and possible collusion w/Russia. He said that Mueller's assignment was focused to those two things only, but Mueller could follow any evidence they find related to those two things, following to the conclusions.

That sounds to me like Mueller is able to investigate money deals and the like, but only if possibly related to Russia. Which means, to me, that if they run across shady deals with other Americans, they won't follow that trail, because that's not related to Russia or any obstruction of justice.

I don't know if my understanding is correct, but that's what I've gleaned from what I've heard.

That makes sense, though, or the Special Counsel could be investigating all the money deals forever. They are confined to the issues at hand.

now, he is following the money. With all of his expert lawyers on his team this could be the fastest way to bring him down which is good for the country.

But the country needs to see proof that Pence, Ryan, McConnell, his family, etc are all guilty and the GOP is a bunch of criminals. That may take a little longer to prove but it is necessary for the Dems to gain favor and keep it.

So I am torn...go for short or long term conclusions from Mueller. Unless Mueller continues to follow the money after 45 , and maybe Pence, are gone. This is why we need an Investigation that is non partisan via a Separate Independent Commission (like the 9/11 Commission).

nothing. What about Wray? Is he compromised? What about Peter Strzok being moved to HR of all places?

For sure 45 has moles in the FBI. What if they know there is internal pressure/directive (Wray) to narrow scope, wind down, etc?

It may come in the form of a tweet, such as: "Of course I colluded with Russia. It was smart to do. Look! I won!" and "Obstruct justice? You bet I did. They were trying to take me down. So unfair!" and "Laundering money for the Russians was just good business. Big profit. Huge. Made a bundle and FBI just jealous."
