Now that someone has been charged with a series of rapes in Omaha from the early 2000s, an innocent man who was included in a controversial 2004 DNA sweep wanted to make sure that police destroyed his and other innocent mens DNA samples and kept no record of them.
Dick Davis II, who now lives in Georgia, was one of several black men from whom Omaha police collected DNA in 2004 while feverishly trying to solve the crimes, despite none of the men being considered suspects.
Davis voluntarily allowed police to swab the inside of his cheek, but he said he felt coerced when police showed up at his family home and asked him in front of his wife to provide a sample.
Omaha police said last week that they have destroyed Davis and all other DNA samples from the investigation.
