Watergate prosecutor: Trump acting like he is running out of time

Former Watergate prosecutor Nick Akerman said Thursday that President Trump is acting in regards to the Russia collusion investigation as if he knows "time is running out."
"What we're finding is, as time goes on, we keep learning new, additional facts. But we don't know what [special counsel Robert] Mueller's staff knows. For all we know, we may just have the tip of the iceberg on this," Akerman told MSNBC's Ari Melber.
Akerman referenced a The Washington Post report that Trump had pushed back on legislation proposed in July that would block him from firing the special counsel investigating his campaign's ties to Russia without a federal judge's approval.
"Now it appears he's directly lobbying congress to try and ensure that he has a way to get rid of this investigation," Akerman said.

(34,661 posts)Love to see the transcript of that Senate Hearing. My guess is,Grassley and Feinstein as well as all the members are scared shitless of what they heard and the documents presented in those 10 hours.
Grassley can only delay this info just so long,if he drags his feet, which he will do,one of the Dems will smoke him out. Now that Ryan has committed himself to be a Candidate in the 2020 Presidential Primary, things will begin to pop.

(22,166 posts)It is curious to see that tRUMP is so concerned about the Mueller investigation. He keeps bringing it up, and says there's no Russian connections, or nothing illegal (on his own, w/o being prompted), and so forth, and it makes me wonder why?
Most in-depth, federal investigations I've read about usually span a year (over a year already in June 2017), give or take. A few have gone on longer, due to the nature of the investigation, e.g., crime(s) still being committed, thus an undercover operation is involved, etc. It's worth recalling that Al Capone, gangster, was ultimately brought down by income tax evasion. tRUMP fits this same profile.
The investigative time frames obviously depends upon the complexity of the crime(s) and the efforts to cover these crime(s) up.
With all of the prior and current news about the mafia/mob in NYC and Russia, and 'dark money', it wouldn't surprise me a bit that there was involvement of tRUMP properties and the illegal or unreported transfer of Russian money to American soil.
Doing it any other way (other than real estate transactions) doesn't make sense, since the value of real estate deals is determined jointly by both parties involved, and values actually determined by the two parties may never be truly known publicly (other than tracking $/other real estate records). In short, easy to manipulate.
This is a relative easy way to hide money and/or under report income (which I definitely think he did, even w/ the one return we've seen of tRUMP's tax return, it was still (income) significantly understated)...this is me as an degreed accountant, w/ emphasis on auditing (and solely my opinion).
In short, take roughly 5,000 apartments times $1000 monthly, this alone is $60 million yearly. This is only the tip of what I understand of Trump's properties (the 5,000 apartments comes from the PBS documentary on tRUMP's $, one apartment complex, with tRUMP reading the ads extensively, for investment opportunities, blah, blah, blah...).
This is just one property, and tRUMP only reported $140 mil or so income (I can't remember the specific dollar amount), but it was roughly this amount, I'm not going to quibble + or - a million dollars here, it doesn't really matter.
tRUMP has claimed he's got over 550 businesses. So now you know why I think tRUMP significantly under-reported his income and is very hesitant to release any tax returns and associated schedules and forms filed w/ the returns.
Now go figure by yourselves where I'm coming from.
If tRUMP fires Mueller, this would constitute a clear abuse of executive power, and Nixon, here we come.
If I was Mueller, I'd be doing an extensive forensics audit on tax returns associated w/ any tRUMP entities, as well as those involved in partnership deals, etc. I think something very interesting will come up...fortunately when I say this, I almost guarantee you that Mueller is way ahead of the curve here, and is doing just exactly this (audits, etc.).

(47,598 posts)that what we hear on the news is probably just the tip of the iceberg. I think the media has just scratched the surface and many will be surprised at how deep and complex this goes. Though Trump does tend to be somewhat reactive as a rule, his reaction to anything Russian is too extreme for him to be innocent.
Trump has gotten away with so much for so long, he honestly believed he could pull this off. The hubris is stunning.
