Powerball: Massachusetts woman wins record-breaking $758.7m

Source: Guardian

A Massachusetts hospital worker has won the largest single-ticket prize in US lottery history, a $758.7m Powerball jackpot – and immediately told her employer she wouldn’t be going back to work.

“I called and told them I will not be coming back,” Mavis Wanczyk told reporters at a news conference. “The first thing I want to do is just sit back and relax.”

Sounds like she worked hard at a low paying job for many years. Glad she won and not some jack rabbit who didn't deserve it.

I always have thought that it would be as much a curse as a blessing. The best thing would be for nobody to know that you won so you could continue to live your life without the curse part. I hope the best for her.

I wonder if she even has a lawyer and accountant yet. Most people that win that much money from a lottery wait at least 3 to 4 months to come out.

With all of the information provided in leading up to the drawing, this surprised me. Not a smart move.

about all the mistakes this lady did upon learning she won the big prize. She is in for a lot of scammers, thieves and crooks trying to get some of her loot. The main thing was coming forward too soon and identifying herself in such a public, splashy way. She needed lawyers putting together trust funds and arranging all the financial stuff well before she got a dime. I wish her good luck, but I fear she will face lots of problems and maybe even crimes against her for the way this was handled. 😳

I read that in Mass, you can claim the lottery prize anonymously in a trust. She should have done that instead of going all out there. The option was there and she didn't take it.
