Finland Says No Fighter Deal With Boeing After Trump's Comments

Source: NYT

HELSINKI — President Sauli Niinisto on Tuesday denied that Finland was buying new fighter jets from American planemaker Boeing, following remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Finland is looking to replace its ageing fleet of 62 F/A-18 Hornet jets with multirole fighter aircraft in a procurement estimated at 7-10 billion euros by 2025.

"One of the things that is happening is you're purchasing large amounts of our great F-18 aircraft from Boeing and it's one of the great planes, the great fighter jets," Trump said on Monday at a news conference with his Finnish counterpart in the White House.

Niinisto, who was standing next to Trump, looked surprised but did not follow up on the comment. He later denied the deal with Boeing on his Twitter account and on Tuesday in Washington.

Niinisto told Finnish reporters that "past decisions and hopes about future decisions have mixed" -- a very tactful way of trying to explain why Trump got that so wrong.

The Finnish government will be getting cost quotations for new jets next year, won't decide until the early 2020s. Boeing is just one of several corporations whose planes are being considered.

there was no deal yet.

The headline probably could have been better written; it makes it sound like there will be no deal. What it really means is that tRump yapped about them buying from Boeing, and they denied that there was any decision at this point (i.e. 'there is no deal' vs. 'there will be no deal'). Boeing is still in the running - a decision won't be made until the early 2020's. Proposals and quotations haven't even been submitted yet.

tRump just opened his mouth and spewed whatever was rattling around in his addled skull, which, as we all too-well know, seldom contains more than a small molecule of truth, wrapped up in his delusions

This is another pointless FAIL for America that you and your Comrade Casino, your mean-spirited, deceitful Draft-Dodger-in-Chief have created.

No doubt the russians are delighted at how their republican buddies have screwed over America again.

Finland should buy from the French or Brits. If the US pResident lies on the world stage, any possible deal is off the table.

Because the Republican base only hears the good news (which is the lying part).

And later, while other networks are informing viewers of the falsehood, Fox News, which is all they watch, will be onto their next story about Trump's new big announcement on how he will cure cancer.
