Russia threatens retaliatory strikes against U.S. troops and their allies in Syria

Source: The Washington Post

MOSCOW — Russia on Thursday raised the threat of a direct confrontation with U.S. forces in Syria, saying that it would target areas occupied by American units and U.S.-backed militias if its troops came under fire.

The warning was issued amid rising tensions in the Syrian desert between the United States and its Kurdish and Arab allies on the one hand, and Russia, the Syrian regime and Iranian-backed militias on the other, as both converge on territory held by the Islamic State in eastern Syria.

A Russian military spokesman, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, said the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF, had twice in recent days shelled Syrian government positions outside Deir al-Zour, a strategic city in the region. Konashenkov said Russian special forces are helping Syrian government troops fight Islamic State militants in the battle for the city.

Moscow has conveyed to the U.S. military command “in no uncertain terms that any attempts to open fire from areas where SDF fighters are located would be quickly shut down,” Konashenkov said in a statement. “Firing positions in those areas will be immediately suppressed with all military means.”

This is all about the US supported terrorists trying to steal oil fields from the Syrian people. The real Syrian people have polar opposite interests from the FSA, Al Qaeda, Al Nusra, US/NATO/Saudi Israel, ISIS groups that want to take down the govt. The US govt bombed Syria for about 2 years and ISIS territory grew by over 1000% and it only started shrinking when Russia came in to help the Syrian people. They immediately bombed their oil tankers and started bombing their ammunition depot something the US never did when they were bombing ISIS.

After this sort of news story, I wonder how anyone can still believe in the Trump/Russia collusion.

US Special Operations personnel are in Northern Syria, also part of the 11th MEU, 400 US Marines from the Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, will crew an artillery battery of M-777 Howitzers; additional infantrymen from the unit provide security.

occupying Syrian land? these special forces need to go because they are hampering the legitimate govt's anti terror operations. In my book, these people are just trying to steal oil rich land for their Kurdish friends.

They need to go now. They Syrians would need these oil fields to pay for rebuilding the country. You would think if Trump was such so friendly with Putin, he would have been able to coordinate this with him. Let the illegally occupying US and Kurdish forces finish off ISIS in Raqqa and the real Syrians and Russians finished them off in Deir ezzor.

But now, we have the US sponsored fighters, threatening the Syrian govt in Syria.

How can people still believe that Trump who has yet to rescind any of the sanctions against Russia or its allies is a friend of Putin/Russia?

Maybe Putin is trying to help him by making it look like they aren't secret BFF's.

Things are different under CinC Trump.
