Story highlights

Sens. Lindsey Graham and Bill Cassidy want to repeal and replace Obamacare
Sen. Bernie Sanders has unveiled his own 'Medicare for all' proposal

(CNN)CNN will host a town hall with Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham and Bill Cassidy, who will be debating health care with Sens. Bernie Sanders and Amy Klobuchar on Monday, September 25 at 9 p.m. ET.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper and chief political correspondent Dana Bash will moderate the 90-minute live event from Washington.

.........................
According to the chamber's parliamentarian, senators only have until the end of the month to pass a bill with just 51 votes under the procedure known as reconciliation, and the Senate's latest push isn't all that different than the one that ultimately resulted in a health care bill being passed in the House.

As of Thursday, it's not clear whether there are enough Republican votes to advance the Graham-Cassidy proposal, a health care bill that was released a week ago and would repeal the individual and employer mandates and turn the federal funding for Medicaid expansion and the subsidies into a block grant program............................

Sanders and Klobuchar are going to have those two clowns for LUNCH.

I only wish that this would have an impact on the actual vote. The Rethugs in the Senate don't give a damn what this bill is doing. They just want to please their billionaire handlers.

Graham and Cassidy need to be kept on the defensive. They cannot be given an opportunity to talk up how their bill is better due to its lower taxes than M4A.

Otherwise, all Graham and Cassidy have to do is talk about how much single payer will cost and point to what happened in Vermont. There, even though they easily passed the single payer enabling law, when it came to actually funding it, no one wanted to introduce the legislation needed to increase the needed taxes, which included a 12% tax increase on the middle class. Granted, even with the tax increase, healthcare would have still been cheaper when you no longer have to pay premiums and deductibles. But it appears Americans just don't trust their government enough to go with single payer, as irrational as that is. Indeed, even the bluest of blue states, Vermont, wouldn't do it. Single payer failed to pass in CA too.

Graham and Cassidy will say the ACA is just a masked attempt at single payer and we need to get rid of it for that reason alone. They'll predictably call it socialism, aided by the fact that a democratic socialist is defending the ACA right on front of them. They'll end up spending the debate arguing about single payer instead of the horrors of the Graham Cassidy bill. Gah

I would have preferred Howard Dean and Amy Klobuchar defending the ACA. Howard Dean is an actual doctor and a great debater on this subject.

and I'm for M4A.

I'm just surprised the pukes will do this.

And Sanders & Klobuchar need to mention the threat the kochs issued to the GOPee if they didn't get rid of the ACA.

And they should talk about the reason for the bill: fund tax cuts for the rich.

And what will happen to Medicaid including nursing home care.

Those points alone sink the pukes except to the most brain-dead in the audience.

single payer vs this bill.

They should hammer the fact the bill guts Medicaid which pays for nursing home care (used by many middle class families) and opioid addiction treatment.

if they haven't taken their vote in the Senate before then. The republicans would get thrashed in such a debate. Graham will probably have a heart attack on stage.

...but Medicare for all, his plans for it, and wealth inequity, along with everything else he always talks about anyway because he's largely incapable of leaving his beaten path when the focus should be on systematically picking apart the Cassidy-Graham horror in soundbites and embarrassing them with it.

Not that any of this is going to matter anyway. Let them have at it.

I'm sure you blame him for Drumpf's win also. Sounds like you would be happier if he were a Republican instead of an Independent who sides with the Democrats 90+% of the time.

...I had no idea that I had to be in blind, unabashed love of Bernie Sanders.

And yes, I have a good idea what he's going to do because he's almost never done anything else.

But feel free to come back here Tuesday if I'm actually wrong.

But I'm not.

Adding:

Why do you think they want Sanders? Why do you think the GOP is cool with it? Because they know all he's going to do is trot out M4A and they get to beat the drums against the evils of socialized medicine.

The GOP is going to get to NOT talk about the merits of actual Trumpcare. They get to spend an hour or so turning it into Trumpcare against Berniecare (legislation that has no chance of becoming law today)

And they'll get to because Bernie is going to barrel right into the trap.
