NFL head: Trump's 'divisive comments' show a 'lack of respect'

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell fired back at President Trump on Saturday for encouraging league owners to remove players who take a knee during the national anthem, saying Trumps divisive comments show an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL.
The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture, Goodell said in a statement. There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we've experienced over the last month.
Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities.
The NFL chief's comments came the morning after Trump told a crowd at a rally for Alabama Senate candidate Luther Strange (R) that NFL players will stop kneeling if fans left games.

(13,592 posts)feel comfortable in signing Kaepernick. It's really only that Kaepernick had not played all that well the last couple years that he's not playing now. They don't want to pay what he's asking to an unpopular and recently unproductive player. If he was a sure fire winner, or not on the shit list because of the protests, he would be playing.

Unproductive, hardly. Real statistics paint an entirely different picture. Unpopular with the team you say..
The quarterback was named the winner of the team's Len Eshmont award on Dec 20, 2016, which is the most prestigious team award that the 49ers hand out each season. The award was voted on by San Francisco players and is given to the 49er who "best exemplifies the inspirational and courageous play of Len Eshmont," according to the team's website.
He may be a lot of things but unpopular in the clubhouse is not one of them.

(13,592 posts)for paying big bucks to sign him right now. But if the fans saw him as a guy that could take them to the Superbowl, they would overlook the protests.

(7,633 posts)won't play the Sunday games at his bar in support of Kaepernick until some team hires him.
Other RW acquaintances I know are urging a boycott on F'boook for basically the exact opposite reason. They are personally not watching because they say the league is allowing the players to disrespect the national anthem. Some are even canceling their $$ sports package on TV.
Unless I'm missing something here I don't know how the league and owners who control this thing are suppose to know the difference.
I think it would be funny if the effects of both group's boycott led them to conclude that somebody needed to give Kaepernick a job to ends this thing.

(6,294 posts)why kneeling .. one knee or two ... is disrespectful.
In church kneeling or genuflecting (one knee) is considered respectful.
Probably originally a sign of ultimate respect and submission.
How in the world can it be disrespectful in football or anyplace else?
