49ers York: President Trumps comments callous and offensive

A year after he strongly backed Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel for the national anthem, 49ers CEO Jed York delivered a statement Saturday condemning the comments made by President Donald Trump at a rally in Huntsville, Ala., on Friday night.

Trump told his audience that players who didn’t stand for the anthem should be fired, and said he wishes an owner would say, “Get that son of a bitch off the field right now!” to those who protested.

Said York: “The callous and offensive comments made by the President are contradictory to what this great country stands for. Our players have exercised their rights as United States citizens in order to spark conversation and action to address social injustice. We will continue to support them in their peaceful pursuit of positive change in our country and around the world. The San Francisco 49ers will continue to work toward bringing communities, and those who serve them, closer together.”

The executive director of the NFL players union has a message for President Trump, "We will never back down." This statement comes after the President suggested owners should fire players who kneel during the national anthem.

I am a proud USAF VET and I'm tired of folks exploiting my service to silence my brothers and sisters and endorse racism. #TakeAKnee

Be careful. Whenever @realDonaldTrump starts a “culture” debate, he’s trying to hide something about the Russia investigation. #takeAknee

Replying to @eugenegu @AsaElliott @realDonaldTrump

The more Trump attacks and targets black athletes, the more our whole country will resist him. We'll all #TakeAKnee today. For justice.
