House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Sunday that she hopes President Trump will stop feeding red meat to his base and instead bring people together.
Its unfortunate. I think he was ill-advised, if advised at all, to go down this path, Pelosi said, referencing Trumps Friday criticism at an Alabama rally about NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. Pelosi said she hopes Trump will move away from exploiting race-related divisions in the United States.
I would hope that he would transition from that and understand that he has a different responsibility than feeding red meat to his base, she said. Pelosi added that its one issue at a time, when asked if she has any reservations about working with Trump due to his recent comments.
As a leader, we have responsibility to try to find common ground, stand our ground where we cant, but we have important challenges in our country that e have to address and if we can find that path, I think we should do that, Pelosi said.

(6,918 posts)He's been calling the media "the most dishonest people" and slamming the professional news industry. To make cover for the fact "fake news" was a significant player in the election, he calls reports about him "fake news". It's a branding trick to reposition the term, and why he is so, so fixed on the term "fake news". He thinks of himself as "Mr. Branding".
Now, he is attacking NFL and NBA players. Not owners, players. He wants to demonize them and put them in their place as mouthpieces for the political opinions of the owners they work for. Professional media first, professional athletes next. The fact the media did not argue with Trump is because it would spoil their neutral, professional brand. Arguing with Trump would have damaged the media itself more than the POTUS.
But you think LeBron James has such professional constraints? LOL The media was obligated to remain silent, athletes have no such obligation.
