Senate Republicans admit defeat on health care bill as Collins declares her opposition

Source: Washington Post

Senate Republicans admitted defeat Monday in their latest attempt to undo the Affordable Care Act, as a third GOP senator announced her opposition to the measure.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) announced she could not back the measure authored by Republican Sens. Bill Cassidy (La.) and Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.), moments after a much-anticipated partial analysis of the measure by the Congressional Budget Office forecast that “millions” of Americans would lose coverage by 2026 if it was enacted.

now they know what it is like to object to everything Congress does and can't get through. They made this.
They built this.
I'm so glad that Mrs. Collins is looking out for us.

happens.

Which is not to make light of that possibility or your cynicism which I share, but McCain objected on process.

There would be no time for any analysis. Forget about a partial CBO. I just don't see Collins voting a blind yes. She's made that clear now 3 times, and I interpret today's lengthy no explanation as "just stop."

They will keep trying new, creative, and innovative things to ensure that "Obamacare" is destroyed, no matter how long it takes or whatever it takes to do it. They will make up rules to make sure that it happens, and those rules will be accepted without question. They will never stop. Until they are removed from office.

and creating new "rules" to fit what they want to do. I don't think they are even done this year.
They can hold a SCOTUS seat open for a year, they can keep running at the ACA.

WTF do they care about rules?
What they care about is a bunch of Daddy Bigbucks holding back on their bribes - I mean "campaign contributions."
That is all they care about.

Senator McCain will likely be out of the Senate in a year or so ( even though for the most part I disagree with his politics). The likely puke nominee for his seat--if not Senator Flake's--will be radical extremist crackpot kelli ward.

If she gets in--a likely outcome given that it's ErrorZona we're talking about here--she will vote to destroy healthcare (despite the fact that she's a doctor, well, osteopath--must have gone to the same medical school as tom price). She's already set to get $$$ from dump and breitfart backer billionaire robert mercer and other GOPee sugar daddies.

So, that's one more vote for the dark side right there.

subsidies and programs as prerequisite to huge tax cuts. That's my understanding.

The Kochs will keep holding "retreats" and belligerently forcing the GOP to adopt a libertarian agenda until they're too feeble too or dead.

At this point, their not even hiding their control of the GOP's domestic agenda or caring about process or appearances.

I thought the Kochs would kill the GOP, then Trump. Two lethal forced aimed at their constituents head. Apparently not.

They have 4 days to complete back room deals, more than enough time to buy off reps. Between their ultra rich donors pressuring them and McConnell need for a win, nothing is over until Oct 1st. Stay vigilant until then. I will continue calling as I have been since Sept 6th (this last round of repeal BS). I am exhausted and sickened over this crap for the past 8 months.

When was the last time that you recall that the current Republicans in government actually cared about rules or procedure or what is even written in the Constitution?

This is not going to end on September 30. This is going to keep going and going and going until federally supported healthcare is destroyed and the tax money saved is thereby redirected to the very rich. That is the goal, and that is what they are going to do. They will change the "rules" of government, make them up,and do whatever else is necessary to make that happen. And they will do it in a way that will seem completely normal to you and like no big deal.

Neither a series of last-minute changes over the weekend nor the CBO’s preliminary analysis had managed to shift any votes in the bill’s favor. If anything, the CBO report worsened the bill’s chances by noting that it was impossible to forecast the number of Americans likely to lose coverage but that “the direction of the effect is clear.” The report also estimated a $1 trillion loss of federal funding for Medicaid by 2026.

Collins delivered a scathing assessment of the bill in a statement, saying the fourth version that the senators had produced in an effort to win new votes ’ “is as deeply flawed as the previous iterations.”

Speaking to reporters Monday evening, the senator said the administration had lobbied her hard to endorse the bill — and she received a call from the president himself before the CBO score was announced.

highlighted sentence is mine....a loss of federal funding by 2026 of one trillion total ....so the federal government doesn't fund..Medicaid..and people lose coverage and what happens? Lots of people without insurance die, millions of people lose all of their savings due to medical bills

REPUBLICANS DON'T GIVE A S**T ABOUT EITHER OF THESE...THE DEATH, OR FAMILIES LOOSING ALL OF THEIR SAVINGS.....they are true heartless ass**les

...of COURSE the GOPEE doesn't give a S**T about them. The millions who lose all their savings due to medical bills means a net gain for the corporations and the wealthy individuals behind them, so that's also a plus for the repugs. Dems and the poor lose; Repugs and the wealthy gain--that's nirvana for the GOPee.
