Sen. Klobuchar gets personal on CNN debate over healthcare bill

Source: Star Tribune

Sen. Amy Klobuchar had 90 minutes on the national stage Monday to make her best case for protecting the Affordable Care Act.

She started with her own first serious encounter with a health crisis, as the new mother of a desperately ill baby.

“Politics is about making people’s life better,” said the Minnesota Democrat who turned her experience two decades ago into a campaign to ensure other new mothers wouldn’t be pushed out of the hospital 24 hours after delivery, as she was.

Klobuchar shared the stage at Monday’s CNN healthcare town hall debate with three colleagues with two different plans to do away with Obamacare. Vermont’s independent Sen. Bernie Sanders favors a single-payer system that would expand Medicare to all Americans. Republican Sens. Bill Cassidy and Lindsey Graham sponsored the latest, likely unsuccessful, attempt to dismantle the healthcare law.

Kudos to Senator Amy Klobuchar for defending the ACA in a two front war. One woman taking on three men.

fuck it. I just listened to Shostakovich's VIOLA SONATA, his last piece, finished just before he died of heart failure. He also had lung cancer, arthritis in his hands and was going blind.

"If they cut off both hands, I will compose music anyway holding the pen in my teeth." DS

He survived Lenin, Stalin and his 7th Symphony received it's Russian premier in 1942 during the siege of Leningrad by the half starving musicians who were still alive from the Leningrad Radio Symphony. (The Leningrad Philharmonic musicians had been evacuated.)

Powerful, stunningly, poignant...the statement, his music and the human being.

If I have a hero, it is Dmitry Shostakovich.

Monday was his birthday..

OK I tell you a brief story..
in Jan 1985 I heard the Leningrad Philharmonic, one of THE greatest orchestras in the world, play the Shostakovich 5th Symphony in the Leningrad Philharmnonie, the same hall in which the 7th was first performed during the siege. After the concert, I met several percussionists and we snuck into my room at the Europskaya Hotel across the street and 7 of us finished 7 bottles of vodka! I struck up a friendship with one. Let's cal him Dmitry. :&gt )

Fast forward to Feb 2017. The St Petersburg Philharmonic( same orchestra) came to a city near where I live and played the Shostakovich 5th as well. After the concert I met with the percussionists and we went to a local bar for.. vodka. They KNEW the percussionists from 1985, including my old friend. And he knew them..

We drank many toasts, to Leningrad/St Petersburg (one of my dearly loved cities), to Russian music and culture and people, and to the hope that trump and putin would drop dead soon, IN FACT we realized in a photo later that trump was on the TV behind us... LOL!!!!

single-payer plan? Because in my opinion there's no fucking way those assholes can highlight a more favorable interpretation on their death care plan against Bernie's single payer plan.

against this republican bill? Hahahahahaha. No contest at all as the majority of America favor Bernie's plan but it is just petty to make a point of pitching Amy against Bernie since Amy is a cosponsor of his bill. Shows your prejudice. Proud of both of them. Maybe you could learn not to be so divisive (one woman against 3 men?) How insulting

...you know how Bernie Sanders takes digs at the Democratic Party all the time? Well, folks have explained that Democrats should appreciate his digs because he is trying to improve the Democratic Party.

Okay. Then, I am trying to improve Bernie Sanders and perhaps he will join the movement, join the Democratic Party, rather than make it all about him.

Glad Bernie pushed for it, puts the R's on the defensive, instead of our guys constantly playing defence, we can say not only is the ACA not going anywhere, we're going to make it better.
