Ryan: NFL players shouldn't protest during anthem

Source: The Hill

BY SCOTT WONG - 09/26/17 12:11 PM EDT

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Tuesday that NFL players who kneel or sit during the national anthem are protected by the First Amendment. But that doesn't mean he agrees with their actions.

“People are clearly within their rights to express themselves as they see fit,” said Ryan, a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan who likes to remind people he is one of 360,000 shareholders of the NFL team.

“My own view, though, is we shouldn’t do it on the anthem,” he continued. “Our national anthem, our flag, and the people who defend it and represent it — that should be celebrated everywhere and always.”

The national anthem issue flared up over in recent days after President Trump attacked former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick for kneeling during the national anthem in protest of police treatment of African Americans.

4. Simple solution. Get rid of the National Anthem during football games.

But they will still protest. And Ryan and his buddies will still say it is wrong.

13. Agreed. Once the Anthem became a symbol of jingoism and military might, it lost its purpose.

Play, "America the Beautiful" -- "Oh, beautiful, for spacious skies---" instead. It's easier to sing, for one thing.

5. Just another white person purposely avoiding the reason for the protest to begin with.

Easier to cloak their racism in bullshit calls to patriotism than it is to address the murder of African-Americans by the police.

They throw in the military, like that is all the flag is about. Hardly anyone talks about WHY they are doing it.

So the players can protest them directly.

...if one does it in a dark room in the home, by one's self when nobody else can see it.

Yeah, that makes sense, Paulie.

And, talking out of both sides of your mouth, as usual. Their right to do that is protected by the First Amendment, but "Don't do that"? Just like "I can take Social Security survivor benefits, but I will do every thing I can to take them away from everyone else." Go fuck yourself, you smarmy, little hypocrite.
