Lawyer: Southwest targeted Muslim woman forced off flight
BALTIMORE -- A woman seen on video being dragged off a Southwest Airlines flight in Maryland never claimed her allergy to dogs was life-threatening, her lawyer said Wednesday.

Anila Daulatzai did tell the crew that she was allergic to the two dogs traveling in the cabin, and they agreed that she could manage by sitting away from the dogs, near the rear of the plane, according to a statement from attorney Arjun Sethi.

Daulatzai, a 46-year-old professor, then took her seat and was grading papers when a series of Southwest representatives questioned her, he said.

"Professor Daulatzai never asked for the dogs to be removed from the plane, did not request an EpiPen, nor did she ever claim that her allergies were life-threatening," Sethi said.

A Southwest representative ultimately asked her to leave the Sept. 26 flight to Los Angeles, and when she refused, they summoned the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police to eject her.

Lt. Kevin Ayd, a spokesman for the police agency, said in a statement Wednesday that officers responded to a direct request from a Southwest captain to remove the passenger.

"Despite her clear attempt to resist a law enforcement officer, Ms. Daulatzai was professionally removed from the aircraft within the guidelines of the MDTA Police," the statement said.

The lawyer also says that Daulatzai, who is Muslim, was racially profiled.

"Police pulled her from her seat by her belt loop, dragged her through the aisle exposed with torn pants, and humiliated her for the world to see in a now viral video," Sethi said. Daulatzai is pregnant with her first child, her lawyer said.

...intolerance from ANY of the attendants or staff. That's why I like flying with them. I have sat next to ppl of many different cultures and faiths and there as never EVER been an issue. They are a fun airline and often joke about themselves. I was on one where a passenger had a severe nut allergy and they accommodated that person so much that the rest of us sitting near her didn't even get a snack

Makes me wonder why they even still serve peanuts.

6. This is a slightly different version of the incident.

In this version, it is stated that she did state she had a life threatening allergy. She was evicted when she wasn't able to provide any certification of her life threatening allergy. She was criminally charged for not following police officer instructions to leave the plane. There's a video of part of the incident. You can see that she keeps telling the p.d. "stop stop stop" because she's leaving and will walk, but she keeps saying that and not once does she actually move forward or walk...she seems to be egging them on, knowing that they'll have no choice but to remove her.

Seems to be very similar to other incidents where people refuse to leave, making the security officers remove them. Then they file a lawsuit. I'm not saying this was planned, but this seems to be yet another incident that follows this blueprint.

not actually there could make a determination about most of those claims, aside from playing the Muslim card. I don't see any indication this was about her religion and frankly don't believe it was in any way a factor. Makes me question every thing else she says.

So there's that.

The person who took the video did say she was acting odd and left the authorities no choice.

7. Yes, but I'm more focusing on the implication this was in any way about the fact she is Muslim

It seems more like throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks.

8. I don't think the outcome would have been much different had she not been

It may have affected the way the cops handled the situation, but then again cops have been known to treat anyone like animals so it's hard to say. I think in the absence of evidence supporting discrimination, trying to make a case for it is just not going to be that strong.

I do believe Muslims have problems with dogs... is this why she said she was allergic? You cant tell she's a Muslim by looking at her

or have M.E. ancestry. Also, her name is a giveaway.

You can be a fair haired & complexioned person and be a Muslim, though. Remember the Muslim genocide of fair haired Muslims in I think it was Sarajevo?
