FEMA chief on San Juan mayor: We 'filter' out political noise

Source: The Hill

BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 10/08/17 09:23 AM EDT

The director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Sunday said FEMA has "filtered out" ongoing criticism about the agency's response to hurricane relief in Puerto Rico from San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, calling it "political noise."

“We filtered out the mayor a long time ago. We don’t have time for the political noise,” FEMA director Brock Long told ABC News when asked about early morning tweets by Cruz.

“Power collapses in San Juan hospital with 2 patients being transferred out. Have requested support from @FEMA_Brock NOTHING! @cnnbrk,” Cruz wrote.

“Power collapses in San Juan hospital with 4 patients now being transferred out. Have requested support from FEMA. NOTHING! @DavidBegnaud,” she wrote in a separate tweet.

"WE ARE IGNORING HER."

Her concerns don't matter. She's a Hispanic woman who refused
to kiss Trumps fat ass. Petty and vindictive taken to the level of
criminal malfeasance.

I can't fathom how any person of color or any woman could vote
for a Republican after the reign of this asshole. King ManBaby.

I just checked my google news feed and this wasn't the headline. In fact, nothing about PR was in sight.

At least with Bush, Jr. we identified his failings and made changes.

With Trump, it just goes on and on and on.

Rachel Maddow showed video footage of her camera crew DRIVING on a road to Albonito and the road was clear and in good condition to drive. The people asked the crew if they were FEMA. The crew asked if FEMA had been there. Just to have people fill out forms. NO AID. That was Friday night.

These sadistic jerks think they are getting away with torturing the citizens of Puerto Rico, but when the cell phone video starts popping up, along with other sources of filmed reality, the truth will out.

Right now, people might be not be able to call or message, but if they can store information until the battery runs down. If they have a car with gas and a car charger, they can keep recording the fails and send them later.

Such a shame that monsters took over our government.

San Juan's Mayor Cruz has been accurate on pretty much everything she's said about the Trump Administration's slow, inadequate response and FEMAs inept efforts to aid the people.

While Brock Long is flinging cheap, ad hominem attacks on Mayor Cruz for pointing out the needs of her constituents, FEMAs own website backs her up, reporting that only 9.2 % of the island has power, only 10.7% of the cell phone towers are working, and just 54.2% of the American citizens there even has access to clean drinking water.

Let's just look at what Brock Long really means when he dismisses the woman who has become a thorn in his side by showing the world how poorly the Trump administration responded to the people on Puerto Rico. Its now 20 days since Hurricane Maria wiped out Puerto Rico:

More than 19,000 federal civilian personnel and military service members, including more than 1,275 FEMA personnel, are on the ground in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands engaged in response and recovery operations from Hurricanes Maria and Irma.

Within days, the number of FEMA employees, other federal agencies, and the National Guard deployed topped 31,000, FEMA said. In addition, FEMA supplied 3 million meals and 3 million liters of water to Texas to be distributed to survivors.

Hurricane Irma: Even more federal personnel responded to Hurricane Irma when it made landfall in Florida on September 10. More than 40,000 federal personnel, including 2,650 FEMA staff, were in place by September 14.

The reality on the ground shows how badly Trump's FEMA has responded to Puerto Rico's much larger disaster than the earlier hurricane damages. Brock Long has dropped the ball on even providing the basic humanitarian services in a crisis, but he's still blaming the victim for his failures.
