Trump vents to wealthy donors about failure to repeal Obamacare

Source: Politico

By ALEX ISENSTADT 10/08/2017 11:51 AM EDT

President Donald Trump told a gathering of wealthy donors in North Carolina on Saturday evening that he was determined to push forward on healthcare reform — but acknowledged that he was facing serious obstacles in doing so.

At a time of widespread frustration in the party about its repeated failure to repeal Obamacare, the president said he wanted to restart the talks. But, according to two people present for the remarks, he underscored the challenges of getting a majority of support for any legislation in the Senate, noting that there was a small group of GOP holdouts who had opposed the repeal efforts.

The president walked the group through what had been attempted so far. No matter how you approached it, Trump said, getting to the 50-vote threshold was tough.

Trump, appearing at the Greensboro home of Republican Party donor Louis DeJoy, did not pinpoint any specific lawmakers for criticism, as he has done previously with Arizona Sen. John McCain and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, both of whom have balked at getting behind the specific repeal efforts. Trump also chose not to attack Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, another past target of his frustration, the two attendees said.

IF he wanted to craft a bill to repeal and replace - he could have worked out a compromise bill. Or a 'better' bill (like the one he promised on the campaign trail).

He didn't do ANYTHING but tweet. Policy is not written by tweets.

Why doesn't he craft something then? What is his vision for American health care? He has nothing.

The smart thing to do, coming in as a Republican, but one that promised swamp drained independent approach, would have been to actually work with Democrats and willing Republicans (who would still be happy to get the Trump bump with their bases) to "fix" Obamacare. Call it the ACA again. Or call it a new name. Even if the Turtle and Paul Ryan would be pouting about that, they themselves have not polled well ever anyway and their pitiful objections wouldn't make much difference.

And if he would have managed this, not only would he have a 'win', and solidified the moderate Republican vote. He'd have also pulled out the issue right from under the Democrats noses, who would really have no choice but to cooperate given the position they are in in all branches of government. He'd also have an issue that pundits in the MSM news would have reason to applaud him for.

But he's a dotard. Who thinks he must destroy everything the previous black man did to make himself feel good.

These same hypocrites probably sit in church on Sunday's and say they are good Christians when in reality they are agents of evil.

I grew up Catholic attending 12 years of catholic school. All I heard from the nuns growing up is JEsus is love and we should love one another. I stopped being a practicing Catholic because of another issue but still hung on to the love part. So everyday I'm disgusted when I hear or see "some so called christian" saying rethugs are the Christian party and Twitler is a man of God".

Makes me want to vomit.

We are superfluous population to them. They own everything; we are getting in the way of their being able to really enjoy it.

Since they can't just outright exterminate us (there really is a stigma about that around the world), they will either just starve us or make sure that stress, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and addiction do the job.

Whether it is via opioid epidemics, natural disaster worsened by climate change, no gun control/NRA, or no affordable healthcare their goal remains the same...kill the poor, weak, and largely democratic people in this country.

The GOP is a group of greedy, hypocritical, lying sociopaths. The Donald is what they have been paying and "praying" for for 35 years.

their are way more poor people than rich ones. If they all voted, they'd be rich no more.
